The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
The gas station was across the street where FloCo is now; this site housed the Hardee's.

Really? Okay, didn't know that, it must have been "long ago". Sorry everyone, don't mind me.
Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
I don't remember a gas station there. BP was across the street where FloCo is now. I remember the site as a Hardee's, though it probably closed at least a decade ago. There may have been a gas station building between that and University Avenue, but that would have been long dead by 2008 (I don't recall ever seeing active pumps). Bit my memory may be flaky...

That corner had two gas stations, on the SE and SW corners. My father and grandfather owned both. The one at the Bridges site wasn't a functioning gas station since the late 70s or early 80s when they bought it out. The site was used for a car wash and to store cars being worked on across the street at the Standard station.

I believe it was actually a Burger King or some fast food place. The BP gas station was at the site of FloCo. I'd grab a 25¢ Airhead every time I stopped in.

My bad, I must have been remembering the FloCo gas station.
And that's super cool that your grandfather was a business owner in this neighborhood!

It lined my first apartment in NE with cool auto related ephemera!

There was an excavator sitting on this lot yesterday, getting buried in snow. I guess it could be being staged for the Knoll, but I think they're getting ready to start digging.

Yeah they used to use it for parking for the Knoll workers, but they were all cleared a few days ago, looks like they are getting ready to break ground.

Excavation is underway! There were close to ten dump trucks being loaded with dirt when I drove by earlier.

Nice! I figured it would be any day now... I'm really looking forward to this rising in its little, super-visible lot.

Awesome news! They must have realized that waiting for the snow to be done would just mean never starting.

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
The site is now quite well excavated and pile driving is underway. The situation of this site will offer a very good look at foundation work, provided they don't erect a fence on the side facing the river.
Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
So I drove by this yesterday, and I am confused as to how this is being built. Usually, they drive in sheet piles on the outer edge and excavate inside on the site. But this one, they are driving in round piling with now rhyme or reason to where it is going. Can anyone explain this process?

Would someone be so kind as to tell me how to upload photos to this forum? I have some images I think you all would love and would really like to share with you, but I can't figure out how... any who, here is a link to flickr with a few shots of the BP I took before they neutered the Florence Court Apartments... http://www.flickr.com/photos/38337415@N ... otostream/

It looks like they've finished driving piles and now are working on the foundation on this project.
