Planned teardown of current home on site to be replaced with a new 3-story, 10-unit building.

Rendering & site plan here: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups ... 100005.pdf

Breakdown of building is as follows:

1st floor: 11-space parking garage, common room, 1-studio, 1-1BR
2nd&3rd floor: 8 two-level apartments. 1-2BR, 3-3BR, 4-4BR.

These are some "interesting" units. What are the odds of beds getting stuffed into those "storage" rooms, and these become illegal 5 or 6 bedroom units? Also no elevator, I assume that's because the entrances to the dwellings are only on the first and second floor.

Screw this. First, that rendering is hideous. Second, while in disrepair, that house has great bones, and adds more character to the street than that student barn ever could.

The house in better days:

It also seems like having them all 2 floor units is kind of a waste of space, because of the stairs in each unit.

Yeah.....I love infill projects of this size but this one stinks. It adds no character to the area and actually takes character away by tearing down the original structure.

I would be really surprised if the neighborhood let this happen.

I'd be amazed if the city let this happen. It's designed to just screw with the rules. Elevators needed for 3 stories? Well screw you, the entrances to the units are only on the first 2 floors. Bedrooms need a window? Fine, we'll devote a quarter of the space to enormous "storage" rooms. No more than five unrelated persons per unit? Sure! Nobody will cram those storage rooms full of beds, we promise!

This is just really stupid.

The planning commission just approved everything. You (generic all of you) should contact the city councilmember in the area if you're opposed.
