I'd honestly be ok with either Ben Schweigert or Anne Mavity.
Me too. I've been telling everyone I can why I'm voting for Anne Mavity. This is the sort of election that can turn on a single vote.

So when/where can we go vote in this?

Monday is the last day for in-person absentee voting at City Hall for the primary on Tuesday.

Kind of funny, but I recently put an Anne Mavity lawn sign up. A few days later, a Marion Greene lawn sign went up at the house directly on the other side of the street. I live in Marion's precinct, 7-9, East Isles.

The primary is tomorrow (Tuesday). I know there are a lot of urbanmsp'ers living in the district, so please go vote tomorrow and again in two weeks at the general election. Turnout is going to be embarassingly low, so your vote will make more of a difference than ever.

I did not realize that Ben Schweigert was the brother-in-law of Yonah Freemark.

Those of you not familiar Yonah is the guy who penned this post:

http://www.thetransportpolitic.com/2009 ... to-uptown/

which has been linked to numerous times here at urbanmsp.com.

I guess if Ben becomes County Commissioner you will not have to forward him a link.

Yeah, that's where I first heard about Ben, was a tweet from Yonah.

Ben knocked my door Sunday in the rain, mostly just to get into my building since he already knew I'm voting for him. I'm heading to the polls right after work today (Whittier Elementary is my polling place).

My gut says Marion Greene will survive the primary today. I just pray the other survivor is not Ken Kelash. I'd be very happy with either Schweigert or Anne Mavity getting this job, and hope one of them finishes first or second today. Ken Kelash would be a disaster.

My friend was voter number 20 at 6pm for his precinct in Stevens Square. On the other hand, I was voter number 55 in politically active Loring Park at a similar time.

It's done. Marion and Anne advance to special election May 13th.

Real talk though urbanists, all aboard the Mavity train.

Hopefully most of those votes for Ben go to Anne. I think they are very closely aligned on message and priorities.

What is Brauer asking, exactly? Is he wondering why people voted for Anne?

I've been saying all along I'd be happy with either, just slightly preferred Ben as an outsider and someone willing to stick his neck out to challenge the establishment (McLaughlin, Opat, etc). Many of my "urbanist" friends were also well aware that Mavity had some urbanist support. (I imagine MNdible is thinking of something snotty to say about "urbanists" as he reads this)

Also, the David Brauer tweet was in response to my prior "All Aboard the Mavity train" tweet

Full results:

>> MARION GREENE - NON 2,247 / 35.87
>> ANNE MAVITY - NON 1,768 / 28.22
BEN SCHWEIGERT - NON 1,564 / 24.96
KEN KELASH - NON 439 / 7.01
BOB "AGAIN" CARNEY JR. - NON 157 / 2.51
BOB REUER - NON 90 / 1.44

I believe Anne would do the same, if you want to reassure anyone. She has a track record of taking on colleagues when necessary. Marion is certainly the more establishment candidate.

Here's a question: will Ben endorse or stay silent?

My god, that is some lopsided turnout: http://www16.co.hennepin.mn.us/election ... OU&rid=101

Marion Greene won this thing with absolutely MASSIVE turnout in a few Ward 7 precincts. Schweigert did very well in Whittier and Kingfield. Anne Mavity won every SLP precinct. Some widely, others narrowly. Marion Greene's ability to turn people out in her home area is just insane.

Ward 7 is Goodman's fiefdom and the Mpls epicenter for the SWLRT issues. Folks over there are already frothy with agitation so they were likely thrilled to be able to get to the poles and feel like they had some sort of say in how SWLRT progresses. My guess is that the ward 7 people do not want Anne Mavity in office as she is perceived to be on the SLP "side" (by virtue of her residence) when it comes to SWLRT issues. Thanks for pointing that out--i hadn't looked into the results that deeply.

Anne can totally hold her own with the big boys. I have seen her "stick her neck out" as an SLP council member, with both voters and colleagues. After the last sidewalk hearing a bunch of Anne's neighbors who are opposed to the sidewalk plan put up Marion Greene signs. But better than that, I think she has the ability to get other folks at the table to stick their necks out as well.

I really hope Anne wins. I feel if Marion wins it is just going to be business per usual.

I had talked to Anne a bit about the sidewalk thing before I declared my support for Ben. Thanks for reminding me.

When folks ask about supporting bike lanes and such on Hennepin County roads, I think the SLP sidewalk situation is great evidence of her tenacity. As someone who works for another not-to-be-named first ring suburb with lacking/non-existant sidewalks, it's a huge deal that she stood her ground in the face of "NIMFY" opposition.

Stronger turnout in St. Louis Park will give Anne a big boost in 2 weeks. As I stated, she won every precinct, along with a few in Mpls Ward 13 (though only because the Greene/Kelash union-establishment vote was divided there).

But just to be safe, I hope Schweigert endorses her.
