The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

TOMORROW: Biking to Olive Garden
Have you been craving adventure and breadsticks? Want to go on a bike ride and make an elaborate & humorous point about parking for a streets.mn post? Are you excited that that post will include a Game Boy Color? Has it been a long time since you've visited the metro's most wholesome municipality, St. Louis Park, a.k.a. God's Country? Is the Olive Garden gift card you got from your aunt for Easter in 2013 burning a hole in your pocket that can't be filled with anything other than medium-quality marinara sauce?
Then bike with us to Olive Garden!
Mission Date: Tuesday, June 30, 2015
Mission Start: 5:30 PM CST
Rendezvous Point: 15th & Willow (southeast corner of Loring Park)
Trip Duration: Approximately 20 minutes one way (Google Maps says 4 miles)
Regalia: Optional, but
Bikers of all stripes welcome! We will largely be on off-road trails. Please be on time to the rendezvous point if you would like to come!

Bring the good cameras to take updated pics of Millennium looming over 394!

I hope to someday reach a point where I am as happy with my job as that guy is with his.

Re: Stress relief
Also off road means paved off street bike trails, not dirt road mountain biking. (right?)

Re: Stress relief
Can anyone think of any science fiction where trains feature prominently (besides Snowpiercer)? I'm a weird shit and next year's Convergence theme is basically transportation so I'm looking for ideas of train related cosplays that aren't just, like, conductor.

Stress relief
There was the anime Galaxy Express 999, I think it was called. About a train that zoomed through space.

Inside Out (highly recommend, BTW) has a "Train of Thought" that's pretty damn adorable.

Re: Stress relief
The Hunger Games movies have some trains -- the train in the second one (Catching Fire) even had an observation car based on the design of the Milwaukee Road's old Skytop Lounge cars.

My Friend Totoro has a catbus. I know, not a train... but transit...

The Beauty and the Beast TV show, the Beast lived in the Subway tunnels below Manhattan. You could probably stretch things if you consider subway tunnel lairs...
Re: Stress relief
Harry Potter, of course. Pratchett's "Raising Steam" has good characters like Harry King or Moist von Lipwig for non-conductor cosplay options. I can't think of too many sci-fi options, maybe Super 8, but that's a fairly normal train.

You could go with any number of steampunk properties (Wild Wild West? *cringe*).
Firefly had an episode with a train robbery.

Re: Stress relief
Steampunk seems to shy away from trains, in favor of zeppelins. Weird, I know. At least that was the case when I went to a steam punk convention a few years ago (TeslaCon, in Madison). It was all Airship/zeppelin crews. Very odd, if you ask me. I bought a steampunk flask, and tried to get something railroad themed, the closest I could come was one with a clock. when I asked the vendor for something train related he was kind of taken aback.
I mean, maybe it's because steampunk trains is just Victorian reality? I don't know, there's got to be some retro futuristic improvements you could do to a steampunk train to advance the concept.

One of the main scenes of Sucker Punch was all about a future train. Defusing a nuke on a train.

Re: Stress relief
Maybe SciFi maybe not, but the movie Wanted had some wild train stunts.
Wanna stretch the bounds of "train", the island of Syndrome in The Incredibles was filled with those pods on that monorail.
In Wreck It Ralph, the video game characters get from game to game on little trains through the surge strip.
In the recent Tron reboot, there were those giant train-like ships that were loaded up with the digital world armies.
