Most headlines I've seen say Minneapolis, see Espn, sports illustrated etc., but every video I've seen they say Minnesota. Maybe its just memory to say Minnesota when talking about the Minnesota Viking's stadium, it's not the Illinois Bears after all.

Minneapolis was trending at the time of my post, so I just clicked that. Twitter actually has an amazingly terrible platform, for all of its popularity, but that's for another post.

Begs to question I wonder if New Orleans would ever replace the Super Dome. The things almost on the National Register of Historic Places. Almost 40 years old.

And it's still ugly as sin on the outside and surrounded by nastychain link fencing mere steps from the heart of downtown. No peach.

No doubt much if not most because of damage done from Katrina, which the damage may have been a blessing for the Super Dome to get such a huge upgrade. No doubt much of it paid for by insurance and dare I say even the Federal government.

While fully realizing that the team is the Minnesota Vikings, would it kill the business community and the NFL to sell this as the Minneapolis Superbowl?? I'm going to cringe every single time I hear "the Superbowl is coming to Minnesota", "here in Minnesota", etc. This doesn't happen anywhere else. Seriously...when's the last time you've even heard someone say "Illinois"?

I actually really like this aspect of MN sports. I think it unifies us. I like to tell people about all the great aspects of our state as a whole, not only our largest city, and I say this as a child of Minneapolis. Plus, if we tie in events from all over the area, like the Winter Carnival in St Paul, I think its approrpiate to sell SuperBowl LII as a state event since we will showcase more than just Minneapolis.

it's basically one city with two personalities separate by a river. what's wrong with celebrating that? an 8 story ice castle in st paul, i'm down with that. crushed ice races at the cathedral, sounds good to me.

The Twin Cities are somewhat unique in that we are the central "big city" for a pretty big area, including all of Minnesota and big parts of the surrounding states.

It's not the same as, say, Indiana, where people from different parts of the state might identify with Chicago, Indianapolis, Louisville or even Cincinnati as their "big city." Plus, even here, Minneapolis is only the "central city" for half of the metro area.

The naming conventions don't benefit Minneapolis' visibility, but they make sense.

I think it's important for Minneapolis to work on making a name for itself, and of Minnesota. Meaning I think it's important for our state to have a good and grand reputation, and it's our City's responsibility to give itself a reputation as well, I think it's starting to do that. For Example Dallas Ft Worth. Texas obviously has a reputation, but Dallas has still been able to give itself and image and reputation, but that doesn't mean Ft Worth is nothing or takes away from Dallas. Same with Seattle/Tac and Washington State, I don't feel like either suffers from the other's strong points. It shouldn't be a game of Mpls vs StP or MPLS vs the Metro or MPLS vs the state. MPLS should just strive to be it's best and get it's name and image out there and Minnesota should do the same! It's mutually beneficial to us in state and it get's the Minne to the country in double.

the most recent super bowl at the new cowboys stadium was marketed as being in north texas. we are moving in a regional direction.

It's not just the NY Times. The media in Jacksonville gave us props too. Great read and the comments were surprisingly positive. If only all the local naysayers (residents and business leaders) would take note and start realize what a great city this truly is.

The photo of Galtier Plaza in downtown Minneapolis was a little humorous (in the Jacksonville story).

That Jacksonville article is interesting, but to be sure, it appears Metro Jacksonville is a site along the lines of TC Daily Planet. The real newspaper there is called the Florida Times-Union (and it currently features this slideshow of mug shots of recent drug arrests, which includes this one: http://jacksonville.com/slideshow/2014- ... g#slide-35).

Also, the guy who wrote it appears to be the Jacksonville equivalent of FISHMANPET.
