Habitable Living

Postby Keagas » July 4th, 2020, 8:18 pm

So I live in a duplex home that has a downstairs and then two bedrooms upstairs. We have a window ac unit downstairs and one in one of the upstairs bedrooms. My room however does not have one and it gets so hot in there that I have had to sleep on the couch in the living room for the past few weeks because every time I try to sleep in my room I get heat stroke (100 degree fever, and throwing up). I know that landlords aren’t required to provide ac but if I’m getting sick due to not having one, is that considered a violation to the right of habitable living? Can I ask my landlord to provide a third window unit or is it up to me to provide one myself?

If the landlord provided a couple AC units at the beginning of occupancy and didn't promise any additional AC units, you would be responsible for any others you would desire for your duplex.

If an AC unit died during your occupancy, you could request a replacement.

Here's an used one for $40 on the list of Craig (I have no financial stake in this listing):
