The idea from the beginning was to make it appear as a "tour" of Downtown Minneapolis skate spots in chronological/geographical order and have it look as if it were all in one take. It strayed a bit from the original concept, but I'm happy with the results.

Our public spaces are NOT your playground! I'm all for skate parks. We need more of them. But Jesus Christ, skating in Gold Medal Park? My kid walks on those paths.

We have to pay to maintain these places. It's downright rude to add to the wear and tear.

I completely agree with you David, but honestly that's exactly the reaction this group thrives on.

Well, Bill McGuire was paying to maintain that park. That said, I've asked the parkboard for skate deterrents on the Thomas Lowry monument for years.

Too bad a lot of skate parks in Minneapolis are awful. The good ones you usually have to pay to get in. A lot of guys I know who skate in Minneapolis don't wanna do that.

Tough. Public space not explicitly designed for skateboards is for everyone, not the personal playground of a few. If people want places to skate they can lobby for more public skate parks or pay for private ones.

I hate when people bring their kids to a park that doesn't have a play ground. When I go to gold medal park and there are kids screaming, it makes me so mad. That park wasn't designed for kids and I don't pay for it to have noise pollution and ice cream dropped on my sidewalk!

People need to learn that public parks are only for the kinds of recreation I like. That's why it's called "public".

That's sorta fair, but there IS a difference here between skaters who destroy public property (not intently per se, but as an effect to what they like to do) and children who certainly CAN destroy public property but generally-speaking don't (at least, it's not as common or destructive as skateboarding can be).

But, to everybody's points, there are special pay-only places for all types of crowds, including skateboarders and children.....so let's all try to respect everyone's boundaries while in public parks.

Ha Ha. Skateboarders take your shitty concrete and make it art. If you're scared GTFO of the way, but they're not going to hit you or your kids. Skateparks are fun, but they are analogous to the climbing gym, good for training but not the real thing. Climbing actual rocks outside is real, as is repurposing public infratructure or private property for creative use on a skateboard. Bitch if you will, but it doesn't matter. it's gonna happen just like that graffiti mural on a highway overpass or freight car. It looks like blight to confused old people, but the more enlightened know it will long be remembered as the voice and soul of a generation.
