Will be a great addition to that neighborhood. This tower and The Carlyle will placemark each side of the Third Ave Bridge which should look very cool. It's too bad we can't get the residential developers on the other side of the river to come up with something of this magnitude and ambition, particularly on the north end of Nicollet Mall.:(

Oddly, I think this proposal and the Opus proposal for their block are very similar. Lots of balconies, good use of different colors. I think the Opus block will look great once both towers are there. The Ritz block should be able to take some cues from the Alatus tower, and push the envelope a little more. I'm looking forward to how the overall markets (housing and office) shape the final designs for that block. Hopefully 2016 will prove to be very exciting.

Nice! I like it. The beginning of a second skyline in Minneapolis.

I went to the Marcy Holmes land use committee meeting tonight. Bob Lux and ESG gave their presentation. There were 4 options: 35 or 40 story contemporary design, and 35 or 40 story traditional design. The traditional looked like a darker Carlyle. The committee voted to recommend the 40 story contemporary design. They officially go in front of the HPC December 7.

You are welcome. I looked for you! I was pleasantly surprised that two of the oldest people in the room spoke up for the tallest building. I think a lot of people see the value of this project as a total package. And the base of it will have a good luck with the real stone, probably very similar to the Phoenix or some of the buildings along Main Street there.

I am right in assuming that this committee was made up of completely different people than the group aligned with Neibna / Lourdes church mambers?

I would of lost it if we got a traditional pre-cast tower...

The traditional wasn't designed to be precast. Would've been a glassy Carlyle.

I, for one, think that a traditionally styled tower would have been a better fit with the area given the proximity to many historic buildings.

I'm not sure if i would consider the Carlyle glassy... or north east full of traditional historic buildings, it's joining other brut and post modern towers on that side of the river.

I'll be happy not to have another fauxstoric tower from them. As the Carlyle is a bit of a dud in terms of what can be done in art deco.

There are a lot of modern buildings that compliment their historic neighbors. The biggest thing is for the podium to blend in with the neighborhood with materials that fit into the fabric. It does not have to look old, but it has to have materials that will compliment the buildings and neighborhood around it. It can contrast, but it still has to fit in. Kind of like the center building of the Nyes Hennepin side that they are using to tie the two old buildings together. The metal front fits in with the industrial character that the area once had. But has large front windows like many of the building up and down that section of Hennepin.

No like.. it would've had the shape of the Carlyle, but with almost all glass. And acs the traditional style wouldn't have fit in with it's neighbors anymore than the modern.

I like that within a few years NE is going to have a really really eclectic group of building from historic to new and diverse in style. it'll be gem for sure!

A really glassy art deco silhouette would be great! But I think the modern one will suit the area nice.

Why are they using that rendering?

Most likely FC was too lazy to get the current design uploaded and just went with the one that they already had on file from last spring.
