Fiber Internet and TV Services, Cord Cutting
Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
Is there something about the Minnehaha Parkway that restrains expansion to the South? I only ask as I'm half a block or so from the service area but there seems to be an impenetrable parkway in the way...
Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
Hopefully they head east. Can't get to Standish fast enough!Nice fill in! It'll be interesting to see if they plod north next or bolt east for Hiawatha and the Mississippi. Prior press releases seem to indicate the latter.
I also wonder if they have a certain installation threshold they want to meet before rolling out IPTV.

No kidding! I hope it's not too long before Standish can ditch Comcast forever

Yep Phase 1 orders can be placed now.
Give us a call or drop me a private message with your name and number and I'll have someone contact you and schedule an appointment to get everything ready for the spring.
Thanks for the support.

Does USI Fiber come with roaming access on City/ USI Wireless network?
Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
Could I make a couple suggestions for this page: https://fiber.usinternet.com/plans-and- ... -the-home/ ?
1) I notice that it says "speeds up to 1 Gbps" but in the grid below it says you can get 10Gbps. I was showing this page to someone and this caused some confusion.
2) Comcast is rolling out data caps in some markets (http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/11 ... -fairness/). I assume you aren't planning on following them, so perhaps add another column to the grid somehow mentioning this? Or advertise "No Data Caps".

Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
Any plans for expanding to St. Paul Travis? It's been hinted at in the press. But would be nice to hear from the horse's mouth.
Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
Phase III is up now too. Unfortunately for me, Bancroft is not in any 2016 phases after being teased about being included this year. Hopefully 2017!
Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
Bummer! I guess not all of Standish is going next year. Those of us on 30th Ave will have to wait a little longer.

Has anyone used Centurylink's Prism Tv service?

Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
Unless it's an error on the map, I see USI is poking ever so slightly into Edina (south of 54th, west of Xerxes) in 2016 Phase 3.
Did that require any sort of franchise agreement or council action by Edina? Out of curiosity, how does that all work?
Plans to expand throughout that dense corner of east Edina (north of 62) thereafter?

Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
A franchise agreement is not needed for Internet. Phone (VoIP) is also available over the fiber as well. If USI begins offering TV service (IPTV) that is when franchise agreements begin to factor into the equation.Unless it's an error on the map, I see USI is poking ever so slightly into Edina (south of 54th, west of Xerxes) in 2016 Phase 3.

Is there any plan to fill in the gap in coverage on Grand Ave. between the greenway and 36th St?

Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
Here are my results, if anyone is interested. For reference, I live in a 64-unit building and there was an ethernet jack prewired into my unit when I moved in. I use an older (2009?) Wireless-N router - Apple Airport Express. If I had any need for expanded range or better speed, I'd probably drop $80 or whatever on a lower-end Wireless-AC router.

Is that similar to what others are getting on the 25Mbps plan? Lower?

Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
I have found that the wireless setup matters very much. My wife gets much better bandwidth on her machine than I do on mine. Since we both use wireless and (obviously) connect to the same router, I conclude that my wireless card is shit.
Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services
if you want to get a true speed test, you need to plug in to the Ethernet jack directly with a laptop or computer. I get 50 up/down when I do that. Varies wildly on wireless but usually much less. Also to note, speedtest connects directly to USI's server in the default config (they host a speedtest node) - but if you pick other servers even in Minnesota results vary quite a bit.
