Re: Southside - General Topics
I think we've talked about this building somewhere. I'm guessing under that hideous siding is something of value.

Yeah we'll probably need a thread for that MPS project because in addition to the new adult ed building, there are some people that want to buy the rest of that block and rebuild the athletic facilities and do some other stuff.

Norway House plans to keep expanding.
This is amazing news for us with Norwegian roots! Go little Norway House!![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
http://www.journalmpls.com/news-feed/li ... -big-plansWithin two to three years, the vision is to create an event center that can accommodate up to 350 people, along with ample off-street parking and a public plaza. Whether the subject is art, music, business, design, science or current affairs, the expanded space will make it possible to gather and celebrate all things Norwegian.

I wanted to bring up that the old Falls Theater on Minnehaha Ave was recently up to sale/lease. This would be an amazing space to renovate and turn into something special for the southside.

Re: Southside - General Topics
I live about a block away from Cap's Restaurant at 50th & Hiawatha. The owner mentioned his plans/intentions of bringing on a brewer (they currently don't serve any alcohol) and making it into a brew pub a few months back. He plans to build a new 2-story building in the current parking lot, overlooking the light rail station and Minnehaha Park. Then demolition the existing restaurant for the new parking lot. I didn't post anything at the time, since he mentioned that it may take a while.
Well I'm happy to report that there's a neighborhood meeting scheduled for 5pm on 12/16 to review his plans!

I can't wait to check this out. He's focusing on sustainability and really making it a new destination place for the neighborhood. I'm excited.

Awesome. I also live about a block away and I've always enjoyed Capps but felt it would be nice to be able to get a drink with a meal. Adding a brewpub should be a big success. I'm hopping to make it to the meeting to check out the plans.

Re: Southside - General Topics
Noticed earlier this week that the old fuel tanks were being removed from the strip mall gas station spot at 47th & Cedar. When visiting Tom's Popcorn Shop a couple weeks ago, the owner shrugged when asked about what was happening with all of the empty space in the strip. He shrugged and reflected on the availability of swords at the shuttered gas station/convenience/weapons store before it closed.
Anything will be better.

Noticed this activity too and came here looking for info. Anyone know what's going on?
Re: Southside - General Topics
Haven't seen this posted: IE (Italian Eatery) has recently opened at 47th and Cedar. Went this weekend and it was quite good. There's enough cobbled together commercial in the area that they have a full liquor license.

Re: Southside - General Topics
There was some discussion about it in the Cedar Ave thread. https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1421&start=80
We're working on getting a charette in the spring for 47xx Cedar block. Anyone interested in finding out more details can email me.

Re: Southside - General Topics
We went on Wednesday, which happened to be their "grand opening." I wasn't blown away, but it was certainly good enough that we'll be back and are still excited about this as a quality addition to the neighborhood. I'll looking forward to seeing their full menu (it was limited on Wednesday, per our server).Haven't seen this posted: IE (Italian Eatery) has recently opened at 47th and Cedar. Now if we could get a good Indian place in the old gas station, we'd be thrilled.

Now if only that gas station can be demolished and a new half-block mixed-use development in its place, I'd be thrilled.
