City wants to reserve Penn and Van White station names for Bottineau rather than duplicate names which would already be in effect on Southwest. Makes sense to me.

Yeah, those names make sense, except that I would prefer Kenwood to 21st St. That one probably doesn't matter so much, though.

Yea, I like the Royalston Farmers Market better. (take out the "/") The Farmer's Market should actually name the venue. It's not like we don't call it The Nicollet Mall Farmers Market when it WAS on Nicollet Mall. Better branding would only increase its marketing potential.

Kenwood or Cedar Lake would be much better than 21st St.

I really would prefer to avoid /-names. Too much of a mouthful.

I don't like "West Lake" either as a lot of places are on "West Lake" nowhere near the station. In order to avoid consternation around the lake name, perhaps "Chowen Ave." or "31st St." would be better.

When someone says West Lake, I definitely think of that area. Chowen Avenue and 31st Street seem so vague.

could have named it West Lake/Excelsior, which is clearer than West Lake St.

There has to be something more specific we could come up with than "West Lake". West Calhoun would've been the obvious choice pre- very recent times. Yes, "Calhoun" was controversial before, but probably not to the degree that anyone would've showed up to an obscure Met Council meeting to protest it.

West Lake / Excelsior is ok, but still problematic because the line runs parallel to Excelsior Blvd for several miles, even crossing it at one point.

Point is, I guess, that "Calhoun" seems like it will continue to be the official name of the lake. Personally, I even came around on "Lake Maka Ska" (a compromise between Lake Calhoun and Bde Maka Ska), and would totally support that going forward. However, at this time, I don't believe the current dual-naming solution for the lake is intended to be temporary. I really believe that is intended to be the "final" solution by the Park Board. Even if the lake's name was officially changed and removed from all government signs - businesses, apartment/office buildings and shopping centers will likely carry the "Calhoun" name for decades to come. Even the Mpls neighborhood itself is (still) officially named "West Calhoun".

Is there any way the Met Council or city could land on "West Calhoun / Maka Ska Station"? Or is that worse than simply "West Lake Station"?

How about just naming it West Calhoun? And if they ever get around to renaming the lake, they then can rename the station?

Agreed. West Calhoun makes the most sense, and they are never going to rename the lake.

That's what I called it (West Calhoun) when I lived there.

Is this the most detailed map of the full proposed route we have? It was posted April 2, 2015, but I can't find any more recent maps on the Met's website. I know the route is still subject to change, but man it seems like detailed maps (not just station maps) should be more readily available by this point.
