first and foremost a project should be appropriately sized to market demand
For me, this is where the pro-tower sentiment comes in.

But what happens is that a tower is proposed and non-demand reasons are used to force the developer to build something much, much smaller, like what happened at the Nye's site.
and integrated into the existing neighborhood.
Those non-demand reasons are almost always the incumbents' notion of what the existing neighborhood is.

To clarify, I am not against towers in principal. Density is something this city needs, especially as we expand and improve our transit infrastructure. I am delighted to see all the new construction in town, especially as someone who works in architecture.
However, I sometimes get the impression that the choice is between a tower and sprawl. If a project is downsized or the scale isn't there to begin with, there seems to be a collective "meh."
That said, I suspect I've steered discussion off topic. I'll end by saying I definitely wasn't aware of the high demand in the area, so that does answer part of my question.

I'm kind of becoming increasingly against towers in principle, especially outside the core. For a lively and interesting city, density is the goal, not towers per se.

Are there any current tower proposals outside the core? I'd put this NE/SE area as part of the core, both because of proximity and because of the presence towers there already.

There's that 27-story proposal in Stadium Village that we haven't heard anything about since May.

Maybe RISE, if you consider 14 stories and a block long to be a tower.

I'll take a few towers over blocks of 6 story/block long monster walls that we have been getting so far, for increased density. I'm not a fan of these mega squats that they end up having to build.

Does this mean new street lights or lighting up the arches? My vote is for the second.

I am thinking lighting for the arches, but I also hope they reinstall the decorative pedestrian lighting/original lighting along the surface - if you google it, you can find old pics of the lighting. I know that for the 10th Avenue bridge they are looking into pedestrian lights.

Lighting up the arches on both the 3rd ave and 10th ave bridges would look amazing along with the lighting on the Stone Arch and Hennepin bridges. Yes, pedestrian lighting too.

Forgot the I-35W.

That's true for stop-light cameras (at least as they were implemented here) -- I don't know about speed cameras.
With the apartment crawl spreading north, the likes of the 700 Central, Red 20, Superior Plating apartments, and the US Bank tower there should be enough patrons that will help to keep it going. It is really not that far from other apartments, Riverplace/St Anthony Main, and the river for people to make their way there if the food is outstanding.

Isn't that strangely close to Masu? Perhaps in the same way that Punch is strangely close to Pizza Nea?

It's a cheap option for Japanese food in CenHen. I'm excited!
