MSP Airport / Metropolitan Airports Commission
Re: MSP Airport
I've used it when flying out of T2, and it is slick as can be. Seems like usually when I'm flying out of T1, it's for business, and that changes the cost vs. convenience dynamics considerably.

Re: MSP Airport
Condor will be up to four weekly frequencies next summer. Still seasonal.

I wonder at what point Lufthansa would try to poach the route, to try and capture MSP-FRA and onward connectivity. I'd be much more likely to fly LH than Condor to Frankfurt 1. so I could open-jaw a connection to another European city on a Europe trip or 2. so I can get United/star miles. It would also provide competition for other routes, such as MSP-India or single-connect options on Star Alliance for smaller European cities without a transatlantic flight from a North American gateway.

Re: MSP Airport
Delta began daily non-stop service between MSP and Rome today. Flights are between June and August. http://www.startribune.com/delta-starts ... 381547851/
Is there a small number of people that could take advantage of this flight for connecting onward from Rome via Alitalia, companies in Minnesota doing business in Italy, or Italians wanting to visit the MSP area (probably a very small number, but then again foreign tourists seem to love visiting the Mall of America).

So, the direct flights must go past August.

Ive noticed at random times an A330 flying nonstop from HHN(Frankfurt-Hahn Airport). DL8959
On the Wiki page Delta does not seem to have any connection to this airport. Anybody have any ideas?

Sun Country kicks off its service to Portland, OR today. Their CEO and MAC CEO met today to cut a ribbon at T2 for this inaugural flight.

1 to 3 airlines in the course of a year, now that Alaska (Horizon) also flies the route.

Re: MSP Airport
MSP will be bumping out the front of Terminal 1 landside by 16 feet, and getting rid of the escalators oriented between the T level (underground) and the baggage and ticketing (arrival and departure) levels.
Re: MSP Airport
It will be great having this terminal upgraded. In my opnion the inside looks dingy and gross, in its current form.

Re: MSP Airport
Interesting. With the conversion to just two security checkpoints at the ticketing level, I thought it would be great to have one more large security checkpoint at the underground level. Going straight up to the main terminal.MSP will be bumping out the front of Terminal 1 landside by 16 feet, and getting rid of the escalators oriented between the T level (underground) and the baggage and ticketing (arrival and departure) levels.
No baggage check, just for people with carry on luggage.

Re: MSP Airport
Looks like Southwest will be launching service to Nashville (BNA), and possibly weekly flights to Cancun.
Airliners.net forum has another poster mentioning BNA getting new Southwest service to multiple cities, including MSP, in the July 7th Schedule extension. Maybe it will come to fruition this time.

Re: MSP Airport
So I am actually going to Nashville the weekend after Labor Day. I've been watching flights and they all suck, transfers or high price. Pick your poison. When could we see new options? Thanks for the help!

Re: MSP Airport
If anything, it would be Novemberish at the earliest. T2 has two new gates opening up this fall. Not sure how those are allocated between Southwest and Sun Country (the big two T2 tenants who really need the space). Even if Southwest gets one of those gates, it could open up flights to Dallas and Nashville. Eventually, I could see them adding Las Vegas, maybe LAX, and maybe another east coast airport.

Re: MSP Airport
I've been wondering if anyone has knowledge of where those gates will go. I understand at least one will be general purpose, similar to H6. So in theory, one could go to each. Good utilization is 8 flights per day (4 in, 4 out). I could see Southwest adding BNA, LAS, and DAL.
Sun Country is adding already since they have added PDX and DEN. Winter is their busy season anyway.

Re: MSP Airport
FWIW for anyone potentially interested in flying to/from New England in the future, we discovered a couple weeks ago that Southwest has options to fly between MSP and BDL (Bradley airport outside Hartford, CT) that do not require changing planes. Was quite helpful for our recent trip to Minnesota, and the flight times were not bad either (departs MSP at 7:30am)

Re: MSP Airport
I have used the direct, no plane change service to New Orleans and Tampa in the past. Good alternative if non stops are too expensive
