The side view has a much more obvious "OMG it's so huge" feeling to it, but once you realize the 35W+3rd/4th interchange is completely blocked in the [extremely high-angle] front view, that's pretty gobsmacking as well. Coming back from Duluth yesterday evening was the first time I'd had a long-distance view of downtown from the NE and it's overwhelming just how large the new stadium is.

P.S. I vaguely remember being a little kid in complete and utter awe of the size of the Dome walking up to it for my first baseball game(s). Being from ND and not seeing the place on a regular basis made for much greater shock. My little boy is going to grow up with this monster, so he may be less awed than I was, but I imagine it'll still be all sorts of "whoa!" for him as well. Thank goodness we'll spend far more professional sports time on the other end of Downtown.

The more I look at it, the more that I wish they had used a tunnel to connect the parking to the stadium instead of a skyway. The skyway looks awkward and fragile and it takes away from the large imposing nature of the building.

I agree that I wish the skyway was a tunnel instead. But the skyway may look better if they ever build anything on the parking lot that it passes next to.

The only thing I really don't like is the visual exhaustion that the new ped bridge, the station, the arches, and all the other stuff over there are now. It's just such a jumble.
Pluss wun.

I hugely agree. It's really unfortunate the whole plaza area wasn't better planned. It's a real mess and I have a feeling we wasted $9 million (or whatever; did it end up being that much?) on that bridge only to realize in 5 years that it's all too chaotic and we have to redo everything.

At least we didn't tunnel it, putting an end to any chance for a transit tunnel ever.

That may have been a consideration, but a skyway to a 60,000+ capacity football stadium makes no sense to begin with.

I couldn't agree more with the comments above. The overall effect of everything out front is huge visual mess - the skyway, the massive pedestrian bridge, and the buttugly arches. At least they could still tear down the arches if someone ever wakes up.

It's a premium skyway for premium clients. Wouldn't want the richy riches having to mix with the hoi polloi on the way to their premium boxes.

How many people are going to trip face first into the rip rap they have lining the sidewalks?

If only the streetscape could be responsible for survival of the fittest more often.

Is that stealth anti-homeless landscaping? No using the overhang for shelter!

Yes it is, I was going to clap but I don't want people to think I hate homeless people so, I will grin quietly. :)

Oh. So all the fences are down, but I guess they're still kicking people off the property? I was just asked to leave a second ago, but I still got some good photos.

Why does that surprise you? There's still a lot of construction going on. I imagine the fences came down in conjunction with them slapping themselves on the back for completing the project six weeks ahead of schedule ... while they spend the next six weeks finishing up.
