Just wanted to note how nice this is looking, particularly in comparison to that utterly disposable hotel across the street from the library.

Seriously. Passed by this yesterday and it just looks so elegant.
Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
Well, this one has the huge benefit of being a pre-existing building, so that is kind of apples to oranges. Anyway, this hotel opens around the 25th of August.Just wanted to note how nice this is looking, particularly in comparison to that utterly disposable hotel across the street from the library.

Giordano's would be great. I live downtown and would love some delivery deep dish!
Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
Do any pictures of the remodel exist?
Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
I hear from management that they almost had a deal with Buffalo Wild Wings recently, but the city wouldn't agree to the signage that they wanted, and some outdoor statue. So not sure if they are still courting Giordano's.
Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
Damn, so yet another street level space will sit vacant. Does anyone else feel like the signage restrictions are just a tad over zealous in mpls? Like does it really bother people that much to see large light-up signs on Hennepin ave when there are already several of them for the theaters?I hear from management that they almost had a deal with Buffalo Wild Wings recently, but the city wouldn't agree to the signage that they wanted, and some outdoor statue. Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
Oh I don't think it will sit vacant...they are still working on getting it leased and apparently are talking to a few potential tenants. That was just the latest gossip I heard last week.
Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
Light-up signs are kinda one of the features of Hennepin.
Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
It's not as though Minneapolis has banned new outdoor signage. Look at City Works just down the street.
Is it that hard to believe that BWW wanted something excessively gaudy? "Tasteful" isn't exactly the word that comes to mind for them.

Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
I'm always suspicious when a business blames the city for not being able to have a space. Like, there are sign variances. Never saw BWW even ask for one.
Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
I was told the bigger issue was some kind of buffalo statue on the street. I don't think they ever got as far as formally applying. It is what it is, 2nd hand info! lol
At the very least, I do know that they are still actively trying to lease that space. And that the first guests check in on 8/24. Doing a soft opening with a couple groups.

Ugh, I have no problem with a buffalo statue being shot down. Pedestrian space on Hennepin is limited enough as it is.

We could've had Sasquatch riding a buffalo dammit!
Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
Yeah no buffalo statue is a problem (think about the shame the employees would feel working at a bar with no associated statue). But I was told the real issue was Hennepin Ave being named after the notorious buffalo hunter Father "Bloody Arrow" Hennepin. I understand the City refused to even consider either BWW Ave or BBW Ave as alternatives.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or do the ground level windows have a blue hue to them? I walked by today, and couldn't tell if there was some film or lining on the interior side. Either way, it is looking really sharp. Hard to imagine that this will be an Embassy Suites - I never think of downtown or beautiful buildings when I hear "Embassy Suites".

Yeah, they did it for Twins Way, so it's frankly pretty ridiculous that they wouldn't even consider changing Hennepin to BBW for them.I understand the City refused to even consider either BWW Ave or BBW Ave as alternatives.

It could have been a Conrad...sigh... Maybe it's buried in this thread, but wonder what caused Hilton to switch it to an Embassy Suites? Are my eyes deceiving me, or do the ground level windows have a blue hue to them? Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
I think the developer changed along the way, and brought in a different flag? I believe that was what happened...
