Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
I'm excited that Blue Plate is going into that space. They have a concept that seems to work. Their restaurants are all very similar, but each one has a slightly different feature to make it unique for each neighborhood. Also, kudos for them buying a farm to start growing their own food.

Looks like a glass pipe shop is either replacing the former Roe Wolfe space on Washington, or there's still room in that building for another business.

@ericthebest
Lest someone think a glass shop has moved into the former Roe Wolfe space, I hear the sign is just a placeholder

Glass pipe? I've heard of PVC, ABS, copper, cast iron, galvanized steel, and pex. But I've never heard of a plumbing supply store that sells pipes made of glass.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
I suspect we're not talking about plumbing pipes here.

Homegrown Glass was in the Roe Wolfe space for years. Are they coming back?

This can't be good news for 700 Nicollet:

Especially this sentence:
"Investors have been pressuring Macy’s to sell some of its real estate as the company has struggled to attract shoppers to its vast footprint of brick-and-mortar stores."

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Whatever came of that plan to convert floors 5-11 or whatever into a separate office space?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Did they ever end up selling 700 Nicollet and leasing back the showroom? Or was it just listed for sale?
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
700 Nicollet is still owned by Macy's according to Hennepin County tax records.

Gist:
Nicollet Mall has landed a new clothing retailer, as Nordstrom Rack has signed a lease to open a location in IDS Center’s Crystal Court.
The Seattle-based retailer will occupy more than 40,000 square feet.
They said the store would open in fall 2017.

Does it normally take a whole year for such a thing?

I'm guessing it's the whole consolidating a lot of space into one.Does it normally take a whole year for such a thing?
From the article: "...including the former Gap and Gap Kids spaces as well as the basement area that once housed a TJ Maxx."

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
There's appears to be a new Indian restaurant that popped up in the old Taste of Thailand space on 7th just east of Hennepin. It's been there for at least a month or so.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Dug through this thread, and it looks like Sak's Off 5th took about 10 months. So a year for Nordstrom Rack isn't totally unreasonable, especially since they might be intentionally delaying until the Mall construction is totally finished. How long did the Sak's Off 5th renovation take?
