I was there a week ago and it was there. At least the sign was.

I drove by yesterday and there was no sign. Unless I was looking at the wrong place, but I don't think I was.

Tim Hortons is coming to Dinkytown? Saw it in the Planning reports.

The same winners who camped out at Sonic, Krispy Kreme, Chick-Fil-A, etc will lose their minds for two weeks when this place opens.

Hope the sssdude nutz store actually benefits from the additional traffic. That guy has done a great job and his donuts are definitely better than Tim Horton's...

Perhaps in your opinion.

Mine too. I was very underwhelmed when I tried it in Ohio. It was downright bad, but idk if their stores are franchised and I just happened to go to the wrong one. In fairness I've also been to a bad Dunkin Donuts or two, but generally speaking I like DD (though they're yet another terribly overrated chain, at least for coffee and donuts).

The worst Timmies I've had were in Michigan and Ohio. The best are all over Canada, and in remote places such as Fargo. In Canada they're made in the stores, except they've recently moved to making them in local non-store facilities in the very dense areas such as Toronto and Hamilton. But in much of the US they make the doughnuts in major distribution centers, meaning they're not nearly as fresh by the time you eat them. The nice thing about the distant locations - Fargo, St. Louis, etc. - is that they're made fresh there too, out of necessity. So I'd expect our store to have substantially better doughnuts than the Ohio locations.

The Canadian stores are mostly company-owned. The US stores are generally (all?) franchised, by a number of franchisees. Some are certainly likely to be better than others.

Note that in Canada the logo says "Tim Hortons Always Fresh - Toujours Frais" but in the US it's "Tim Hortons Café and Bakery" on the logo. That's not an accident.

Still, I'll be happy to have one readily available either way.

This is so exciting! I've been wanting to go to one for ages now. I have a couple of friends in Alberta and they always rave about it.

Can't speak to the donuts, but the (blended) frozen cappuccino is highly Bear-Approved. (I'd visited a Timmie's with my sister while she briefly lived in Canada -- and sometime after she returned, we took a road trip to Thunder Bay with that as our principal objective. :D )

I've done the same Thunder Bay trip! The first time we didn't have a hotel or any plans beyond Tim Hortons, but it was so great we've gone back twice more. The Real Canadian Superstore is almost as good as Tim Hortons.

So a few things to report:

-The space to the left of the Refinery is being remodeled

-The Cove is a restaurant that is planning on opening at 1320 5th St SE, that stretch of the Venue facing 5th St. Should help foot traffic

-Numii is taking forever to remodel. I saw people on there for a week maybe? There's a kitchen half complete and more signage, but that's really it. Vietnamese food though!

-Some door just popped up in between Eriks and Varsity bike shop, city permits say it's for Bank of America

There's a permit for THD at Home Services for the space below Pagoda I think,
