Is "write you up" a necessary step? Can't they forcibly shut it down?
I'm just cynically guessing we're Surdyk's on W Broadway or E Lake this would escalate faster.

Also a work scheduling issue. People have months to get ready for being scheduled at other stores, but I guess Surdkys employees just have to get used to it immediately. In fact the owner was quoted saying that.
Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation
I was wondering if this might have been as much a publicity stunt as anything. What better way to get free advertising than to do something like this. Once the word got out, the line for check out was weaving through the store. Even with the fines, it's probably a lot cheaper than hiring an add agency.
On the flip side, I wonder if the city could hit him hard and actually take his license.

They won't take his license, but I could imagine them suspending it for a week or something. I think it depends on how aggressive the city feels like being; there's not a lot of reason for them to be too aggressive if he doesn't keep prodding them. I bet the city fines him the $3500 the story alluded to this week, and tells him that if he does it again they'll be talking about his license. If he keeps doing it, it could get more interesting.

This indicates they are fining a total of $5500 and suspended the liquor license for 30 days, starting July 2.

Maybe Surdyk's will eventually shut down and we could get another mixed use development on this site!?
Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation
That's going to hurt.
Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation
Wow, guess I was wrong on that one. I bet he doesn't end up with a revoked license for 30 days though; they've got time to argue around on it for a while.
An ironically fitting punishment would be to suspend his license for 30 consecutive Sundays.

I would love if the store got bought out, leveled, and then occupied the first floor of a mixed use building. It's a ridiculous suburban-style site.Maybe Surdyk's will eventually shut down and we could get another mixed use development on this site!?

Which makes a whole lot more sense.

Ha, I love it. I'd like to believe they saw my comment.
