And that's for City Center Realty? The one they're no longer offering it to?

Sort of. It was designed by a certain local firm that lost the bid under a different group name but the design was going to be repurposed (was basically purchased) under these guys. So now I have no idea what will happen. Sad. It was pretty neat too....

ESG had been talking up their design work on this for a while, so I don't think it's exactly a closely guarded secret. But I haven't seen the actual plans.

They weren't alone. It was a closed competition

I heard this weekend from a long-term employee that there are actually two more stories on top of the Sky Room / Oak Grill. Can see them on some of the photos posted on this thread earlier.

Rumor has it they were the private suite of the Dayton family, a long time ago. I'm curious what's up there now, if anything.

From what I'm hearing, a food hall is likely for this space. These foodie tenants tend to take up pretty small spaces, and can be done in concert with retail and larger/traditional restaurants. I'm guessing they'd still need a significant office component to help fill the space, but I'm told to expect as many as 150 new food halls before 2020 in the U.S.

"United Properties will lead the work and become a part-owner of the complex."

“We are not simply redeveloping a building,” Brian Whiting, president of the Telos Group, said in a statement. “We are providing unique and progressive environments that draw on the building’s history and combine it with the diverse experiences Minneapolis has to offer.”

TANGENT: I wish someone had photos of the pool for the Dayton family on the 13th floor. I worked in that building for a few years during my first years at Dayton Hudson and never had the opportunity to see the 13th floor.

A pool?!? I've never heard that! How funny! Back in the late 80's I worked for the DT Council for RT Rybak... Bob Dayton who owned Harold's and the Conservatory hosted our Christmas party in his top floor office in that building. He had bought an oak paneled library from a scottish castle and installed it as part of his office. It was like walking into a period room in the MIA... I am sure that he de-installed it but I have no idea where that ended up... I know that the MIA didn't get offered it..

Nothing concrete and no pictures, but this article seems to suggest they're on the right path.
In a statement, Mid-America said the retail component of the project “will likely incorporate creative reuses of the lower street and skyway levels, tying them together visually and structurally.”

Among the prospective retail uses mentioned for the site, which fills a prime block along Nicollet Mall, were an entertainment venue, food hall, restaurants and traditional retailers. Some of the tenants are expected to be new to the Twin Cities.

And 4Marq, also with a prominent, visible, totally deserted corner retail space. Not terribly reassuring.

Were they the ones who supposedly were near signing on Barney's for Ren Square... does anyone remember those rumors?

Now that Macy's decade-and-change occupation of 700 Nicollet is (finally) over, can't we go back to referring to the building by its rightful name? After all, it was Dayton's for nearly a century.
