I'm wondering why lrt is the only option? Lrt is so inconvenient for drivers and pedestrians, it clogs up the roads. lets find a new mode other than roads and ground transportation. lrt was not an effective solution to traffic or a good use of space and money, instead it favored a small number of our population for transportation needs. I have taken the blue line every day for a few years during school so yes Im grateful for it but, we as American people need to get more creative, and we need funding from a government who cares about innovation and that wants to be a leader in this world.

I hope to see, elevated systems, monorail, maglev technology, exclusive corridors, ferries, gondolas, paper planes, anything!

I'm renovating my house, but stairs are such 4th century technology, so I'm waiting for Hyperloop so I can get from the basement to the attic in one second.

What! I thought that since they got all of the funding, everything was good. What could be holding them up this time?

They don't have federal funds yet.

As long as they build it give or take a few months, I don't care. I'd rather it be right than rushed.

We're gonna build a wall and make BNSF pay for it! ;)

With the delay, would that mean that the green line extension and the blue line extension would still open around the same time?

Wish we could chop up this work a little differently... Blue Line to Penn or Robbinsdale alongside Green Line to West Lake or Hopkins. Open both extensions in phases = more urban service sooner.

Phases always scare me, because it seems to give the project a chance to be nixed from that point (e.g. all "twin" building proposals). Otherwise I like that idea.

Eh, nixing the expensive low-density ends of the lines wouldn't even necessarily be a bad thing. Except for skipping uptown, LRT to Hopkins and Robbinsdale is a pretty good investment.

That ship sailed years ago, though.

An attorney land use blog post on what SWLRT might mean for land owners along the SWLRT construction route.

Don't know if the information has already been posted and is buried somewhere in the thread, but does anyone know what the expected travel times from each station to target field will be?

I mean, that wall really sucks.

Does the railroad really have everyone over a barrel here? Is there any room for negotiation? For all of the ridiculous complaints about this project, the fact that this wall was sprung on the city at the last minute is terrible. Is there an FRA requirement behind this or is it simply the railroad doing CYA? If anyone has any backstory on this I'd appreciate hearing it.

If the wall does get built I'll remain in the hope that whatever we build, we can destroy.

No idea on why it got added but did the LRT tracks move closer to the freight tracks? Given its depth, I assume it really is to reduce risk that a freight train derails and hits a LRV that has passengers. I don't have much knowledge on this topic but I do believe that there are typical separation distances. If we're in the business of speculating or theorizing, perhaps if the tracks moved closer together, then one could imagine that some added protection would be needed. If not, perhaps it was the railroad further managing their risk before the agreements were reached. Or it could be that the plans are under review by the FRA or FTA who raised the issue. The wall issue sucks but one question that I'd ask is whether there are alternatives, like further spacing the tracks. It's pretty tight ROW the closer you get to Royalston but would that be an option further west?
