Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors
Fantastic. Though I’d rather avoid new parking garages along the LRT...

This is awesome. Such a small footprint.

This is fantastic! I'm honestly so happy! This looks like a building that would belong in NYC
Re: Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors. 451 feet
Wow this came out of left field. Looks great, the parking podium is hidden nicely unlike a lot of the other projects that have gone up. Replaces a couple of empty buildings and new residents to help support restaurants and businesses on the north end of Nicollet Mall.

Love it. Looking forward to a bunch of these types of projects in the coming years. Calling them "lofts" is amusing, however.
Towns!
Re: Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors. 451 feet
11 floors of parking? Holy smokes. Gotta take you 10 minutes to drive in and out of the building!

I parked in a building like that in Chicago a couple of years ago and it was hilarious. I think there were like 15 spots on each floor.

Very nice! This will be a better use of this space along the LRT and hopefully be a catalyst for some renovation at Renaisance Square, next door. It would be nice if that could be fully restored.

I live in a building like that, and I can say from experience, there's no better way to convince a person to not use a car for short trips.11 floors of parking? Holy smokes. Gotta take you 10 minutes to drive in and out of the building!

Re: Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors. 451 feet
The building that it is replacing has been vacant for a long time. I was just wondering whether someone would ever move in there. This is great news.
Re: Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors. 451 feet
Great news. Enormously challenging site to build on. Only access is from 5th along side the light-rail and 40 stories of concrete to pour ... good luck!
Re: Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors. 451 feet
This is very impressive, I hope it proceeds as quickly as the Hub, and doesn't stall out like the Gateway or Alatus. It's odd how the building looks short compared to it's taller neighbor when in most other parts of downtown it would dominate.

Re: Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors. 451 feet
I realize there are different owners, and probably many other factors I don't understand, but you wonder how this pencils out here, but wouldn't one building over at the corner of Hennepin and 5th? While this is great, I'd much prefer that corner to be filled in.
Re: Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors. 451 feet
It's 50 feet taller than the Dorsey (50 S 6th) building, so it's going to stand out quite a bit. Will have excellent Target Field views and I think may even be quite visible from the stands, too. Awesome.

Sort of an odd 1978 throw-back design.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Residences at 33 S 5th St, 40 floors. 451 feet
I did some really quick Googling, but have these folks built anything beyond 11 stories?

For real, reminded me of the Landmark building in St. Paul on first glance.Sort of an odd 1978 throw-back design.

The architecture firm did these before the recession

I'm guessing that proposal is long dead. (Although both concepts look stunning, be nice to see them design more towers in Mpls.) I just hope the developer is able to navigate the path to completion given that it appears they haven't done anything of this scale before.
