Apartments at Franklin and Park - 1925 Park Ave

Postby Silophant » March 5th, 2018, 9:35 pm

Thor Living (a new brand-new subsidiary of Thor Construction) is proposing a four story, 44 unit apartment building on the vacant lot on the corner of Franklin and Park. The building itself isn't anything special, with no retail and 22 surface parking spaces, but, according to this Business Journals article (locked), they're considering modular construction, with the building made from factory-built 15' wide modules that can be trucked in and slotted into place, which almost halves construction time for a building this size.

Hope the modular construction works - 44 new homes in six months would be pretty amazing stuff.

I love this project. The exterior is simple and cohesive, the parking is fairly minimal and completely hidden, and it's new reasonable housing in a neighbourhood that needs it.

i hope the modular construction will be cheaper and allow for cheaper market-rate rents

There is digging on this site. Affordable housing? Let's hope so! I'm interested in hearing how much this modular construction truly saves.

Great! I saw an excavator sitting there on Saturday, but wasn't sure how long it had been there/would still be there.

Excavating has been happening and there's a hole in the ground that's clearly prep for something.

Does anyone know details about the situation at Thor, which among other things has brought this project to a halt? It's particularly sad that a minority-owned business that appeared to be on a roll and had done so much to revitalize North Minneapolis has, at least for now, gone off a cliff. Here's one person hoping that Thor's financial issues can be resolved and the company can once again become a force in the community.
