I always figured Starbucks was sparse because Caribou was so dominant.
Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
I'm not sure, there's plenty of coffee competition in other cities with dunkin and caribou as well. Maybe they have just expanded with the reurbanization of the city and its strictly a numbers game.
Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
Caribou seems to have a location in nearly every office building downtown with an sizable amount of retail. So it was always surprising how sparse downtown was for Starbucks.
One thing that is interesting is the locational differences of Starbucks vs. Caribou downtown. Caribou is very much skyway dominant, and it will likely stay that way. Seems like nearly all (all?) of the new Starbucks are street-level retail bays.

Also true in downtown St. Paul to a lesser extent.

I assume the Trader Joe's is going into the 1st floor of the building along Washington Ave, correct?

Yes. I walked by on Saturday and can confirm they are actively building out that space for Trader Joes. There were grocery store style refrigerated display cases and shelves lined up already.
Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
Trader Joe's and Starbucks along Washington, East End apartment entrance along Chicago and Jimmy John's along 3rd.
Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
This is getting there. People have already moved in. Jimmy John's looks set to open. Fixtures are in (still empty) at TJ's. This is a transformative project for the neighborhood.

Iron Clad and East End are looking good. 365 Nicollet is off to the right.

Iron Clad seems to have gone from ground up extremely fast ... bravo

It is just amazing to see how fast it is going up. That stretch looks so urban now...Iron Clad and East End are looking good. 365 Nicollet is off to the right.

It does! Hopefully this second RFP for the Guthrie ramp site can work out better and we can finally stop looking at ramp backsides in the Mill District.
(Except for the stadium ramp, I suppose.)

This area of a few blocks is set to absorb over 800 housing units in the next year or so, pretty cool. Hopefully this means even more neighborhood-oriented businesses will follow.

Jimmy Johns is open
Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
Moving in here at the end of the month and just toured this weekend. As MattW stated, the Jimmy John's opened on Friday. Leasing staffer we talked to expects TJs to be opening at the end of the month.

Three views of this project. There were workers assembling Trader Joes' signature wooden shelves when I went past on Thursday, and the Jimmy Johns had just opened.
Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
So weird that there's not a speck of Trader Joe's signage yet, or even a "Coming Soon" sign in the window.

That siding (which I usually love) actually looks kinda of ridiculous in its environment.

Yeah, I’m not sure if it is the resolution of the photos or what but that pattern feels like it detracts from it.
