He community meeting was tonight... anybody go to the meeting? The meeting even was promoted on Channel 5...
Opposed.

Land Use + Development Committee passed a motion to send a recommendation to the Association’s Board of Directors to send a letter of opposition to the Heritage Preservation Commission.

Reason was that the project doesn’t meet the St. Anthony Falls Historic District guidelines and the zoning code. Specifically the height.

I give them points for consistency.

Amazing. 4 buildings in this area with similar height and they're still going to beat that dead horse?

Right? Especially now that one of those four is also in the precious historic district.

Here is the link to the packet. The link in LIMS is incorrect. Height 292' and includes staff comments.

That F&C headline is not entirely correct. The HPC voted to approve the 'certificate of appropriateness' for this to move forward in a historic district. The building still needs to be approved by the Planning Commission, but that's basically assured to happen. This project won't go in front of the City Council unless someone appeals the Planning Commission's decision (which is otherwise final).

I'm not so sure - the Planning Commission has been absurdly strict about the height and bulk limits in the new Comp Plan, and everything between the river and University in this area is Transit 10, despite the five(!) existing >10 story buildings in that district, one of which isn't even complete yet.

It would be absurd to deny a planning application for a 27-story building on the site when a 41 story building was previously approved, of course, but denying a 10-story building at the intersection of two high-frequency bus routes and adjacent to campus was also absurd, and yet here we are.

Something's going on at the site. Dirt and gravel have been spread over the lot. Is construction imminent?

I don't know if it ever came before the Planning Commission for approval. Unclear whether it got caught up in the COVID-19 mess or what.

It will be ironic if this breaks ground now. I mean after years of good economy and drama it ends up breaking ground during a time of COVID and unrest.

It has not been approved by the CPC.

I drove by today... they sprayed that green sod material on a lot of the exposed soil... and there is an area with gravel dropped and spread in a small square area. Doesn’t look like construction prep to me - though there is one yellow construction vehicle on the lt as well.

Green sod material = hydro seeding.
Mixture of grass seed, fertilizer, water, and a mulching material used to stabilize bare soil to prevent erosion.
I agree, sounds like it will be sitting as-is for a while.

Pretty sure this isn't hydroseed....other materials dropped off and a line of cars and trucks parked on the newly fenced off site. The grass that was growing wasn't beautiful but was sufficient to stop erosion.

Wow that looks totally different than what I saw a couple weeks ago... that looks like construction prep!

This site is now completely full of construction equipment and materials - must be staging for the bridge project.
