"Probably built like crap, has amenities you'll only use once or twice, and the cheapest granite counters and stainless steel veneer appliances we could get at a bulk rate, but hey, you can stumble home from the bars."

That website is cringey bad. Did this project change developers/contractors when it was dormant for a while? You don't typically see such low-end marketing for development of this scale. Is Master still involved as developer? Who's building it now?

Looking back in the thread, demo/digging began in December 2017, followed by multiple instances where folks observed that work appeared to be at a complete standstill, in spring '18 and spring '19. At any rate, gonna be close to 3 years of construction (and nearly 7 years of discussion) by the time this opens.

Related. Development broke the adjacent affordable apartment building.

Now the old building will be torn down and replaced. https://www.southwestjournal.com/news/d ... r-it-down/

I want to know more about the “cave-in deep below the surface”.

I wonder if the unstable subsurface conditions extend north of Franklin to the Vision Loss Resources site.

The lake infill they built it on may be the core issue.

3+ years later and this finally looks like it's wrapped up. In tandem with its completion northbound Lyndale gained a left turn lane and parking was removed from the west side. If that 6,200 sf corner retail space wasn't going to be hard enough to lease, I think the loss of parking there is going to be another knock against it. I'm usually not in the business of defending street parking, but here on Lyndale it buffers the sidewalk from cars going 40 mph while also providing visual cues to slow down. I also can't imagine renting one of the ground level apartments here.

Is the theater garage still planning on going back in here?

Theatre Garage is gone for good Minneapolis Theatre Garage reflects on the end of an era
Initially, there were talks about including a replacement theater in the new development. Brown was intrigued, but says that plan faced substantial hurdles in financing and organization.
