Scherer Field/Hall Island
Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
That is very cool......seems well though out!
Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
Could definitely end up being one of the best parks in mpls!
Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
When did they eliminate the access to the island itself? Any explanation of that?
Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
It was a while back!
The island needs a few years to establish itself as stable habitat before they want to allow humans easy access.

Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
Be great at some point if they can come up with an updated plan for Boom Island to create some synergy between the parks.
Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
Well that tunnel they showed would help a lot with that. Do you mean more than that?

The expensive tunnel is key to making this part of the riverfront trail work and a worthwhile investment. Meanwhile Boom Island needs some basic repairs to the shelters like tuckpointing. Those chimneys are in scary shape.
Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
Yeah, you go through that tunnel and you're kinda dumped into Boom Island which is mostly grassy area. Maybe create an integrated riverwalk between the two, with "rooms" or etc in different areas kinda like they did on Nicollet Mall, it could extend to the Bridge to Nicollet Island. (A woodsy area, a roseg arden area, an area remembering indigenous heritage, one remembering lumbering days, one flour days...tell the story of the river and city. Or just something to bring Boom Island more up to the level of Scherer. A Bandshell or etc might even be nice...idk..it's our Harriet Island.Well that tunnel they showed would help a lot with that. Yes, lovely ideas. Boom Island park itself is criminally underrated but it could be even better with some tweaks.

Hot take: Boom Island Park is one park that would gain from being edged by mid-rise towers like Gold Medal Park.

100%. Unfortunately the built form zoning is a mix of Corridor 4 and Interior 3 over there. Should be Transit 10. Bit of a whiff from Steve Fletcher there.Hot take: Boom Island Park is one park that would gain from being edged by mid-rise towers like Gold Medal Park.
On Graco Park, I love the concept but I'm somewhat concerned about the VE process. It's an ambitious design. The tunnel under Plymouth is something that should be sacrosanct, it's really important.
Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
Serious question here:
Why is the tunnel so much better than having the trail run under the first bay of the existing bridge? Given unlimited funding, the tunnel might be cool, but is it really that much better than the alternative? And how much park stuff would you sacrifice to make it happen?

Re: Scherer Field/Hall Island
I personally don't care if it's a tunnel or path around the bridge. I run this section a lot and crossing Plymouth/8th is awful. If it were my decision alone, I would keep that grade separated crossing at the expense of any other feature in the park.Serious question here:
