Sounds like the Loring park speed way will be closing at 101 grant. Not sure anything is planned for this site currently. Given that the strip mall will still be around what can/should be done with this site.

That Speedway seemed to generate many, many complaints among Loring Park neighbors. I think a small convenience/grocery store would be nice, especially with Target still closing at 6.

It's apparently been a gas station for a long time. https://twitter.com/MplsPhotoBot/status ... 28/photo/1

When LPM first went in I think a lot of us thought this parcel would likely see redevelopment as well. Even a 5 over 1 with Lotus on ground floor would be a major improvement.

The Speedway parcel is owned separately from the Lotus/Rainbow Road/Liquor store property. The latter just had their mansard (?) upgraded to copper or another metal. That's a 50-100 year investment. For those two reasons I sadly don't see this changing for a while.

I drove by last night and the entire parking lot was fenced off. It was after business hours for the strip mall tenants, so maybe there's a fence for access there, but it didn't seem like it.

Their closing announcement said that they'll be removing the underground gas storage tanks, so I'd guess that may be why the area is fenced off.

200 Oak Grove, and it’s mysterious owner, in the news.

My friend lived in this building, and then moved to another complex of buildings under the same ownership on Lagoon Ave. They are also nearly abandoned, as he is one a handful of tenants between 5 buildings.

Is the owner hoping for the city to allow them to demo the building?

The owner isn't waiting for anything for the city to grant/ deny. He has been emptying all his buildings over several years and leaving them empty and open to squatters.
