Hmm.
Yeah I wish this could be paused until conditions change. But it’d probably take over half a decade or more.
I like the Trellis proposal though of the two.

Wonder if Trellis will pull out and then the site will sit vacant for 5 years until Target offers to build a store if they're allowed to close Nicollet?

Re: Nicollet-Lake Redevelopment
Even if there was a majority coalition of council people brave enough to essentially end their careers by supporting such a thing, even in a world where Target didn’t already have a store at Minnehaha and Lake AND didn’t close an Uptown store within recent memory…
Target is fully capable of building stores that don’t need to use twice as much land on parking as the store itself and that would come up at every stage of such a proposal, to the point that it likely would be kiboshed by city staff before it even came to a public meeting.

Re: Nicollet-Lake Redevelopment
I mean, it was intended as MonteSnark obviously, but on the other hand we recently pretended closing Chicago and / or 38th permanently was a serious option after spending decades trying to get Nicollet opened up.
EDIT: Getting off topic, but worth noting that there's no small-format Targets on the upcoming stores list so they might be dialing back their foray into this. Among all the management problems at the company my take is there's an issue in that there's no different branding for the different formats. You look online to got to a Target and you have no idea if you're looking at a small Target, a conventional Target, or one with a full grocery section. Walmart clearly specifies "Neighborhood Markets", "Stores" and "SuperCenters".

Re: Nicollet-Lake Redevelopment
The City Council voted to award development rights to Trellis. Unfortunately, they are saying 3-5 years before construction starts.
