Since this is a Latin grocer, there is probably a benefit to being near other grocers since many people will buy some of their groceries from a large grocer like Target or Cub and some specialty items from Colonial market.

I stopped by the former Lunds/soon to be ALDI in DT St Paul this afternoon. I was a bit curious as it's (incorrectly) listed as open on the ALDI site. A crew was there working on installing signs and from what I saw through the open entry door the bagging counter is installed. From what I'm aware they had expected to be open around this time but had some delays in receiving equipment like the refrigerators and such due to production supply delays. Still It looks like it won't be much longer until they do open.

On a side note, I really like the vibe of the area in general there with the newly rebuilt Robert St, rapid bus stations, bikeway, and revamped Pedro Park.

Longer term I am wondering if this ALDI store might be a replacement for the University Ave one. With the White Castle now closed I could see them opting to move out of the current store there and become a ground floor tenant in a new mixed-use block on University/Lexington should a developer pursue the site.

If there would be a replacement for the University and Lexington Aldi, it would likely be in a replacement store on University and Snelling.
