The Station on Washington - (630 Washington Avenue SE)
Re: The Station on Washington - (630 Washington Avenue SE)
Mini. It appears to be the same model, if not the exact same crane, as was used for Stadium Village Flats last year.

I took a few more of this today. Not quite Nick's excellent bird's-eye view. Washington looks a lot more intense with the big electrical poles that have gone up.

Re: The Station on Washington - (630 Washington Avenue SE)
The two retail spaces were announced today. Walgreen's (ugh) will take up 7,000 square feet on the first floor and Haiku Sushi will occupy the remaining 4,000 sqf on the first floor. The Walgreen's will be half the size of CVS down the road and truthfully I've never seen a Walgreen's that is this small. This will be quite interesting to see when it opens in August.
Re: The Station on Washington - (630 Washington Avenue SE)
That's too bad. I had already had doubts about the long-term viability of the U of M Market that moved into the old Village Pizza space, but.. I don't really have doubts anymore. Given that I've never seen more than one person in there at any given time, I can't see how they'll survive adjacent to a Walgreen's. It's kinda surprising that Walgreen's would open a store just 2.5 blocks from a much bigger CVS, but I guess they'll be able to grab all the convenience store business from the hotel and the medical area, so they'll probably do alright.

Could be just a walgreens pharmacy, no retail/ photo/ makeup/ redbox. They tend to position those in or adjacent to medical facilities. There is one in Uptown next to Allina at 1221 w Lake.

This has topped out. Windows are going in, and bricklayers were working on the west face of the building yesterday - they had brick up to about the 3rd floor. I'm liking the look of this building more and more as it fleshes out.

Awesome, its always exciting when they start getting their skin! Pictures someone! I don't get over there enough :/

Here you go. I think this will be the best looking of the three new buildings on Washington, though I think the Sally's building will be better still.

Nice pics, the middle one definitely demonstrates how incorporated and solid windows look when they are encased in full brick rather than flush with a thin brick veneer.

Opus does some of the best work of this stick-building boom.

Re: The Station on Washington - (630 Washington Avenue SE)
Signage on the Walgreen's is up. It is being advertised as a "W-corner" or something. Perhaps a scaled back version of the full store?
Also, I couldn't help but notice the big slap-in-the-face that Walgreen's is doing unintentionally with their sign: A red background with a white "W" in the center. Anybody else think this too closely resembles another unnamed Big Ten school logo?
(Should have called it Malgreen's.)

I'm guessing Walgreen's in Minnesota can't sell liquor, but otherwise Walgreen's is making some pretty awesome urban stores.
