Darn it, I want to attach a pic of phase 2, but it tells me that the board quota for attachments has been reached.

Yep, the render shown at the IDS today. Someone with a hosting account will post it I'm sure.

I saw the rendering today at the exhibit. It's hands down one of the most interesting designs for a Minneapolis office building in a very long time. More than just a mere office building: it's a work of art . As much as I like it, I did wonder who would lease space there. It would have to be some very forward and creative businesses.

UrbanMSP posted a pic on FB last night. I absolutely love the design. Such a great fit for Uptown. Hopefully it leases fast and shows a demand for office space in Uptown and spurs future development.

The Acme machine property (the next block east, between Mo2aic and Planned Parenthood) is ready to roll when the demand is there.

Cheapo site is up for grabs as well.

The view of this from the meander was awesome, but it seems there is a section of Phase II that comes out over it, and the columns with the sculptures up top seemed to be missing from the rendering... I rather like those as a gateway, makes me think of the neverending story...

Yes, the design draws on the character of Uptown and takes it to a new level. Now this is good architecture! :D

Really? I guess everybody has their own preferences, but this is just repulsive to me.

 I guess I should have predicted that would be the next comment on this thread. Yes, to each his own my friend.

Reminds me of the façade of the old Walker. In an unpleasant way . . . ;)

It just seems like it would fit in perfectly here.

No, and not really. You are referring to Ralph Rapson's original design of the Guthrie Theater next to The Walker. And Tom, quite frankly ,I love the building you linked. We all have different tastes and that's fine.

I mean it's essentially an argument between people who like creative modern architecture, and those who don't. it'll be had forever. it does however have the elements of a successful urban building. an active street scape, transparent, and good "frontage".

we're you thinking the old walker library?

I was thinking that this was right in line with the new library,I think they'll compliment each other nicely.

Beautiful, iconic and perfect. This is gonna bump up Uptown big time and hopefully bring more growth along with it.

Yes, forever and ever. And really having the qualities you describe for a good urban building are far more important than any mere "style" of architecture.
