LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
from the south LPM will look fairly broad. However, from the west LPM will look slender. Imagine a knife...

I thought that was fairly obvious from the name, but still, it's essentially "So, bro"! And besides, to be technical, noboday called Broadway "BrOdeway", so the name should be pronounced "So-braw".It's located in the "South of Broadway" district, so it's supposed to be short for that. Whoops.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Ouch, that's harsh! I like both buildings, and maybe LPM Apts a tad more, but Nashville came out a major winner with their project considering that city isn't as known for their architectural prowess (that I'm aware of at least). Their building could be in any major American city and it'd stand out in a positive way.The rendering of "Sobro" in Nashville. I like it a lot, but I think LPM works better with its more slender form, green glass, and elliptical shape. Has more of the iconic presence of a skyscraper despite only being 37 stories ( maybe because its set apart a bit from the other tall buildings downtown). For whatever reason, Sobro seems more like an infill project.

It's way too early to make an actual judgment about it, but from the windows that are up now, I have a feeling this is going to look a little less graceful and IDS-ishly glass curtain wall-ed than the rendering suggests.

Boy, you picked one of the best skyscrapers in history to compare it to. Tall order! I agree that it will look different than the rendering and not as IDS-ish. The rendering makes the glass darker, more bluish when it is really light green. The mullions and window frames are light beige and will probably stand out more than IDS. But the form is really beautiful and should make it very distinct. Love the balcony composition with the elliptical shape(Loewenberg's balcony designs are its trademark). So far, I actually like the tint of the green glass better (makes the building look warmer in the winter months) but we will see how it goes. It's way too early to make an actual judgment about it, but from the windows that are up now, I have a feeling this is going to look a little less graceful and IDS-ishly glass curtain wall-ed than the rendering suggests.

I'll take anything mentioned in same sentence as the IDS, personally.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
The tower is up to the 19th floor. Has about 18 more to go (including the crown)!. It appears to be going up at about two floors per week , which is a little faster than what I expected. Should be topped out by Thanksgiving.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
^That would make a lot of sense, weather-wise!
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
^^^Thanks for the photo. It's nice to see a new building rising to the sky downtown.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
If that's the 'wide' side of the tower, it's still going to look pretty slender when its done. Can't wait.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
That would be the slender side.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Really? Are you sure? It looks like the broad side to me.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Looks like the view from Vineland Place and Hennepin. If so, that would be the slender side.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Yes, it is the "slender" side. For sure.Really? Are you sure? It looks like the broad side to me.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Well, you're looking at it obliquely, so technically it's the broad side, but it's very foreshortened because of the perspective.
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Then you'd have to say it's the Broad Sides...
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Is there actually an argument about this? Haha. Whatever you want to call it...this is looking pretty much directly at the west facing side of the tower...directly from the west. As you can see, you are looking sqarely at the side of the elevator shaft:)
Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
I wouldn't say an argument per say... I think we all know what's up anyways...
