Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
Star Tribune business section has a big story today about out-of-state investment in Minneapolis real estate. One interesting nugget was that the gm for Brunsfield America said the company is particularly interested in going to Linden Hills or the U of M area next.

I saw that tidbit about Linden Hills also. I hope they aren't talking about "downtown" Linden Hills (where Creative Kids Stuff is), because that won't go anywhere, but perhaps they are talking about France and 44th?

That's not Linden Hills, that's Sunnyside.

I would agree but they may be calling it Linden Hills. That's not Linden Hills, that's Sunnyside.
Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
The Minneapolis side of France Ave at 44th and France is part of the Linden Hills neighborhood.

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
Correct as far as neighborhood boundaries are concerned. But I spent a lot of time in that area growing up and we always referred to the 43rd/Upton node as Linden Hills but the 44th/France node is Sunnyside.
Similarily, when people go places along the eastern side of France (even if at 49th or 51st) I bet they say they're going to 50th and France rather than Fulton.

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
Here's a quick summary of the construction progress for ONLY housing projects in ONLY Minneapolis, based on the data I track rather loosely:
total # of units; (planned units; completed units; units under construction):
Downtown: 7,129 (3543; 1060; 2526)
Uptown: 1,777 (480; 532; 765)
U of M: 3,082 (381; 1311; 1390)
Other: 1,920 (962; 233; 723)
Total: 13,908 (5368; 3136; 5404)
*Note: I had to estimate a lot of the information regarding completion status, since I can't confirm them very easily.

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
Does the huge share (just about half) of units going in downtown potentially signal that other adjacent areas will see a bump in development soon? As much as Uptown is booming, there's not nearly as much as I would have thought as % of total. Will some bigger projects start creeping up NE and N Mpls also as land in downtown becomes more scarce?
Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
Unfortunately I think we have a ways to go before downtown real estate becomes scarce.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning
This could have easily been posted in "Apartment Boom" or "Minneapolis Density and Population Growth", but it gets into other territory so I'll put it here.

Just FYI - myself and a number of co-workers and friends who do not regularly visit the site frequently check this map to see what developments are proposed and springing up around town. Thank you all who maintain this map. If there's anything I can do to make it easier or improve the map just let me know.

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
I think that I'm the only one who still works on it (if there is anyone else, please correct me.) Glad to know someone is actually getting some use out of it! I figured it had just fallen by the wayside. I have still yet to re-add renderings for a lot of the projects, if someone is interested in lending a hand with that, it would be much appreciated.
Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
I'm looking at a way to get the map its own page or tab on the site since it should be more easily accessible than it currently is. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for keeping it up!

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
I was driving today and saw trailers, and what looked to be the beginning of a construction site on the corner of 9th St S and 13th Ave s. Anyone know any info on this?
Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
How does one happen to be driving by 9th and 13th? Could there be a more out of the way location in downtown?

Indeed. Although that little loop they made has always fascinated me. http://goo.gl/maps/Jsulm
Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
Yes. Interesting that they didn't just extend 13th Avenue as a one way into the offramp right there. It's probably not ideal, but that sort of thing happens at a lot of off ramps in South Minneapolis and St. Paul. And it would seem to improve connectivity.
