Re: MSP Airport
Indeed, MSP is doing fine for Delta.
Curious about Great Lakes however. About 14 regional airports in the midwest transitioned from Delta Connection to Great Lakes (some were EAS, some were not) but now Great Lakes is down to just one or two of those destinations. Anyone have the details on that?

Re: MSP Airport
Not sure, but I know that SkyWest ended up picking up a number of these routes with their 50 seaters.

Re: MSP Airport
Dag nabbit! I hate flying and connecting makes it twice as shitty! If I can make it out to the TCs around spring break maybe I'll just drive.Sadly, the United directly flight from Cleveland to MSP will be one of the casualties.Good to see another big bird flying out of MSP!
Meanwhile, elsewhere:
Cleveland loses United hub.
As a result, United's daily departures from the city will fall from 199 currently to 72 by June.
Ouch. Anybody know, for comparison's sake, how many flights Delta has out of MSP?
Re: MSP Airport
Surely delta flies Cleveland to Minneapolis...
Re: MSP Airport
What I have not seemed to be able to find is if the Essential Air Service grants will go out to other carriers that will serve these cities from other hubs, or if they will continue to fly to MSP. How many of those cities see EAS subsidies? Here are the details on Great Lakes: cutting down the following destinations in March. From the Airliners.net forums:

As a result of the US Airways/American Airlines merger, MSP will also loose legacy US Airways service to Washington National and American service to La Guardia. To get the merger approved, they had to give up slots at those airports, and MSP didn't make the cut. Both were relatively recent additions on regional jets. I believe that puts Delta unopposed to LGA, and just Delta and Sun Country to DCA.
But amongst these small cuts, I am pretty excited about the return of the 747. I miss seeing it.

Re: MSP Airport
Shame about the loss of DCA service on US, that's the most convenient airport in DC. I guess United still has service to IAD.
United is also starting service to LAX soon, so that'll be good for competition.

Re: MSP Airport
Some more information about Great Lakes.
They're blaming it on a pilot shortage, although I've also heard that they're having trouble getting planes as well.

Re: MSP Airport
Not MSP, but MN airports. St. Cloud is getting 2x daily service to O'Hare on United.

Re: MSP Airport
Spirit adds DTW to its list of destinations from MSP.

Also, this makes me want to fly Sun Country even more![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Re: MSP Airport
Is that the first time MSP-DTW has been flown by someone other than Republic/Northwest/Delta?
I dislike Spirit but I love to see competition on a hub-hub route.

As far as I know it is. Anyone with more knowledge please feel free to correct me.

Re: MSP Airport
Last summer, I flew MSP-SLC for the CNU conference... it was cheaper for me to buy two tickets, Southwest MSP-DEN and Delta DEN-SLC, than it was for me to fly DL MSP-SLC.
Re: MSP Airport
Delta is massively overpriced at its HUBs. But then so was Northwest.
Much cheaper to fly west coast to east coast by far than to fly either coast to msp.....

Re: MSP Airport
On the other hand, so many more direct flights.
I'm going to Pittsburgh next month, it's $300 on Delta vs $200 on American Airlines, but it's a 2 hour trip with no layover vs a 5 hour trip with a layover (in DCA, a shitty airport to boot).

Re: MSP Airport
Well, DCA is a great local airport, but a not great transfer one. That said, it does have a Cinnabon, which is a definite plus.On the other hand, so many more direct flights.

I'm not so sure I'd call that a "plus"... Maybe if you're a fan of diabetes. That said, it does have a Cinnabon, which is a definite plus.

Re: MSP Airport
I'm already Type I diabetic so no concern there.
The problem with DCA is that it wasn't built with security check points in mind, so every concourse has its own little security checkpoint, which can limit your food/shopping options.
