Your right, I meant west. But when I was typing, I was thinking about the excavation progress on the east block. I should pay more attention.

Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
So in other words the park is actually going to be used. Is this a problem. I live near the lakes and during "disease season" which is in the summer the lakes, parkways, and parks are usually tied up on weekends for one cause or another.
Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
Yeah I don't know why all the complaining about it actually being used. I could see negative comments from the same people if we build the park and it doesn't get used by the Vikings on game weekends.

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
The concern most people have is that when Vikings have so much control over the property it no longer a public amenity. It has become another revenue generating facility being constructed for the benefit of the Vikes. I have doubts that there is going to be any concern from the Vikings about how this place interacts or operates when it is not in their use.
If the Vikings have control over the park 80 days a year their will likely have much to say over it design. Their priority is going to be maximizing revenue on game days. It is possible that there exists a design that would maximize the Zygi's profits and also be a welcoming public space, but I will not hold my breath.
So yeah its cool that they want to use it, but it may be myopic.

This is a little bit of an aside, but Preservation Design Works is writing a series of blog posts about the history of newspaper buildings in Minneapolis, including the Star Tribune.

I don't it will be used for soccer. I am hoping we do get a franchise and it is owned by the Twins. Soccer should be played in a smaller outside facility. The stadium that Sporting KC plays in is fantastic. This could be another anchor near the Twins stadium. There is plenty of land over there. The impound lot would make a great sight.

That land is already spoken for by the Harrison neighborhood. It would be a terrible place for another stadium.impound lot would make a great sight.

Spoken for in the hypothetical sense? In the master plan sense? I don't get the feeling it's spoken for by demand in the market, even with a future LRT stop. The hypothetical Basset Creek office development ended up across town, the subject of this very thread.

Development isn't a zero-sum game.I don't get the feeling it's spoken for by demand in the market, even with a future LRT stop. The hypothetical Basset Creek office development ended up across town, the subject of this very thread.

Are there other potential tenants looking for a million square feet of office space?

You'll have to ask Ryan. It's not like there'll never be any demand for more office space ever. Are there other potential tenants looking for a million square feet of office space?

They have dropped off several more sections for the cranes on the west block of this development. I'd assume that when our monsoon ends they may start assembling these things.

I've been in meetings with CPED for my photography project in Downtown East and asked about this. They said that the two were unrelated and that Downtown East didn't effect Bassett's Creek Valley. Are there other potential tenants looking for a million square feet of office space?

Looks like they have 1 section of the tower crane up and have quit for the day. This site should be fun to watch tomorrow.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that is where the recreation area of the facility is. there may be parking underneath.Has, uhhhh, anyone been to jail and can clue us in on the existing land use of the eastern third of the block? It looks like it's covered parking/loading of some sort. I'm sure that could be integrated into redevelopment. http://goo.gl/maps/1fhAE

I have been in the jail and parking ramp. All I saw was parking ramp but there may be things on other levels.
