Re: Uptown Restaurant News
I went by yesterday evening. It was so starkly empty I wasn't sure I should go in. Looked nice though.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion
More like, they are looking at better concepts that they can make a better return on investment. Never saw it as a very busy place in all the time I've live here. Or is this really a night spot and not a restaurant?

Yeah, it's a concert venue that happens to serve breakfast.
Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion
Never have seen much of a weekend breakfast crowd. With that location they should be packed every weekend. If Spill the Wine can do it, they should have at least as good a chance with the Brunch crowd on the weekends.Yeah, it's a concert venue that happens to serve breakfast.

Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion
Yeah, there isn't one. They put 90% of their energy into shows and maybe 10% into food and such. They should just have some other restaurant use the space during the mornings and they could take over at night.

Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion
The outside tables seem to do pretty well with the evening drinking crowd, especially with Country Bar gone. It strikes me as similar to the CC Club crowd. I really like the space for small concerts though. No complaints with the layout for shows (other than blocking off the corner entrance, but tradeoffs man).
If a non-music venue replaces Cause, and something nice replaces Falafel King (and Country Bar), this intersection is going to be very different in 6-12 months. Icehouse is now the only music venue around, correct? Unless you count Dulono's, which I don't. I don't expect a music venue to be successful in Uptown (Hennepin-Lake), but I'd hope one could make it somewhere in the area.
EDIT: VITA.MN has a much more complete story. They "lost their lease", whatever that means, and it "wasn't by choice or for financial reasons" as they were having a really good year. http://www.vita.mn/crawl/264810411.html

I am shocked and appalled that a private business would want you to dress like an adult when you enter their establishment. This is outrageous. Write your city council.http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/07 ... ress-code/

Re: Uptown Restaurant News
I'd be more sympathetic to that point of view if this was not an establishment that caters to the bros from the suburbs that infest uptown every weekend, whose behavior could hardly be classified as that of adultsI am shocked and appalled that a private business would want you to dress like an adult when you enter their establishment. It's becoming a sportz bar. http://www.vita.mn/crawl/266297911.html
Maybe they'll bring over Mac's greasy fried menu too.

Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion
On one hand, that is super lame. Lyndale Tap House already fills the sports bar niche, as does Bulldog further up the road. Herkimer too, come to think of it. On the other hand, I am more likely to visit this establishment than if it were another place with "wine" in the name...
This does make the loss of Cause a bit more painful. Someone on Twitter made a tongue in cheek comment that Champions should reopen as a music venue continuing to move "the real Uptown" further east.

Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion
Hey, if private enterprise wants to invest their own money into a sports bar and not a place for start-up bands to play then isn't that their prerogative? I wish there were more small live music venues in the area (especially Uptown) but apparently that mold didn't fit as a business, at least not for this space, otherwise it would have stayed the way it is.
Unless of course this Mac's group is somehow kicking out a perfectly well-functioning establishment in Cause and leaving them high and dry. That wasn't how I interpreted the situation though.
