Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
The white and green steel in your photo is all structural steel for the stadium. The Big Crane (that's yellow & can move) is in the background, correct ?Putting together the Big Crane.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Yup. There have been some less than clear captions on photos posted by the Vikings that are leading to the confusion. The white and green steel in your photo is all structural steel for the stadium. Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Ah ok, that makes sense, thanks. I saw on the news that the big crane is supposed to be 400 feet tall, and this crane is much smaller, so thought they were still adding to it. It looks really cool in that area now with 6 cranes on site.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I believe the green steel will be temporary supporting structure while they erect the structure. The white and green steel in your photo is all structural steel for the stadium. The Big Crane (that's yellow & can move) is in the background, correct ?Putting together the Big Crane.

It can reach 400ft when fully extended.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I agree that the reporting on this crane has been very lacking. I think a lot of people assumed that it would be 400ft. tall at all times. So a lot of people didn't think that it was the one that it is for that reason. I haven't seen it fully extended yet, but it sure is a massive beast! I love all the activity happening around these blocks downtown!
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
The first big pieces of steel appear to be getting installed today. (the big crane is currently lifting one of the green trusses)
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
That green steel is a temporary supporting structure to hold the white truss up. It will be removed once the roof is nearing completion.

This new Mortenson animation is a handy guide to the construction process.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Thanks for posting that updated video! I was surprised to see how long it will take to put up the center main support. I figured that would happen rather fast, about half the time the video showed.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
It looks like the main roof support will be completed by about spring next year. It will look really cool by them. It looks more complete on the outside in January of 2016. This isn't far when you think of it. Freshman year of college for me
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
it's fascinating how they have this choreographed for every single day, on such a mega project.

Webcam has appeared to be down all week. Can still view most of it using http://oxblue.com/open/ryanco/downtowneast
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I've also noticed that this webcam sometimes doesn't work in firefox, but does in IE. Not sure what that's about.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
The nice thing is even while this is down you can cheat and view through the Downtown East webcam!
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Webcam is back up and running. Now that they've added more of the green steel support beams, you can begin to see how high the roof will actually be.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
One of the permanent steel pieces is going in now.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Well nevermind I guess, looks like they picked it up, put in into place, then took it back down......
