Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
But if it were built in Arden Hills (which I agree, would be stupid) at least Minneapolis taxpayers wouldn't be financing the local share.

and convention goers, and anyone eating and drinking in dt restaurants and bars. anyone spending money downtown is a minneapolis taxpayer.

I'll move my response over to reviving the stadium financing thread.

Anyone know why the giganto crane is totally dismantled?

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
My guess is that they're moving it to a different part of the stadium. If you dig up the time-lapse of the construction process that Mortenson posted a while back, you'll see that it seems to jump from one end of the building to the other. Given how much stuff is staged in the middle of the bowl, it probably can't crawl its way around.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
There appeared to be a yellow "section" next to it on the webcam earlier. Any chance they're making it a bit higher? They have crawled from this side to the other once before without dismantling.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
It looks to me like they might just be adding a small section to make it a little taller for this next section. I believe they are adding on the next piece on the west peak before they move the crane to the east end.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
It looks like they added another section to the crawler crane as mentioned earlier. They must need more height for the west end of the truss.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
It appears they are about ready to lift the far west truss! The straps are all hooked up.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I'm guessing yesterday's wind ppd them a day. They're strapped up again this morning and the truss has changed positions for sure. If the damn live cam would only shift over to the other side I'd be able to tell if the truss is actually being lifted or not.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
The truss is definitely getting lifted at the moment.

It's being slid into place right now.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Whoever is operating the vikings web cam today doesn't appear to find the truss installation at all interesting. Last time they were putting up a truss segment the web cam spent most of the time watching it.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I watched it from the DTE cam instead. Just zoomed in on the stadium area. It was a slow process, I missed most of it as the rise took awhile to get the piece up to the top. Will they be building another green tower to support that other white section, on the east end of the stadium. Looks like that is the next piece of the puzzle.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I have a suspicion that it's an automated camera that moves to the area that has the most activity—i.e. motion-detection. It spends an awful lot of time on the extreme east end of the stadium—the end that just happens to be closest so the motion is easiest to detect.Whoever is operating the vikings web cam today doesn't appear to find the truss installation at all interesting. Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
This is what you get to do when you're laid off
Preparing for the lift on 10/8/14
Rising over the fence on Chicago Ave
Taken through the fence on Chicago Ave
That's a construciton worker on the left
Three quarters of the way there
Different angle
Almost done
Between yesterday and today, I spent about 4 hours at the stadium site. After I took that last picture, I went to Hubert's for lunch, walked down to Marquette to get some more construction pics to show my Dad, and walked back to the stadium via Washington taking more pics. When I got back to the stadium site, they still hadn't joined the pieces together. I left. It was too dizzying watching those workers on the catwalks up there. You can't see it on my crummy pics, but there was a port-a-potty strapped to the piece of the truss they lifted up there today.
