I know it's a park, but maybe we can have a permanent exhibit about concussion injuries in a corner, and an exhibit about the history of civil racketeering in another corner.

There is an option for interpretive displays in the survey.I know it's a park, but maybe we can have a permanent exhibit about concussion injuries in a corner, and an exhibit about the history of civil racketeering in another corner.

Agreed.your lack of constructive input is frequently obnoxious. You have identified a legitimate problem but offered no legitimate solution. Your ideas are reactive and entitled. Not in the least proactive or plausible. Constantly extreme and combative.

Amen.Questioning each other's ideas are part of having a discussion. If you want to broadcast your thoughts without any interactions with the reader, start a blog and turn off the comments.
Stating an idea is a freedom, but it doesn't mean the idea can't be discussed. Because, you know, we have that freedom.

Too bad they have more interest at the table than any plebians taking token 'public comment' surveys online.I will admit to voting for a few options, like a sledding hill, specifically because they would make it difficult for the Vikings to take over the entire park.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
Oh, no doubt. Luckily, I don't think we need another park with a giant artificial hill in this area anyway.
Remember, the public meeting it tonight for anyone who's interested.

I do, but instead of one giant run I'd like to see 20 or 30 like a normal resort has. Talk about icon-ic!
Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
BIG has an energy plant disguised as a faux hill with ski amenities I think in Denmark. It's pretty bad ass.

So is the LRT station block no longer a part of "The Commons" ...?

So, calming Park and Portland are not in scope, based on that map? Fail! I still wish it wasn't too late to close southbound Portland. Convert Park to two-way. Even closing that one street would make a contiguous ~5 acre parce.

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
Calming the street(s) is definitely within the scope of the project. Closing (permanently) is not, at least not at this time.
As for Jake's question about the LRT station block, the real answer (and the difference between the two above graphics from last night's presentation) is that the City / Park Board does not own the LRT station block, MSFA does. That triangular block will almost certainly be built out purely for stadium plaza / event functions and LRT queuing. For that reason, maybe it's a good thing that it's functionally separate from "The Commons" blocks.

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
But the presentation lists that block as "LRT Station Block" and not part of "The Commons"Still is:
I mean, it makes sense, and I wondered how they would incorporate the top of a parking garage into a grassy park. I'm sure something will still be done to make it an inviting plaza.
But I'm feeling some disappointment with how this project keeps seeming to shrink. What first felt like almost three full blocks of parkland is now looking like a block and a half.
Either way - I'm looking forward to the design phase and hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised.

The LRT station plaza (with a garage underneath and footings in place for a structure) would be the ideal place for any sort of park structure... but that would impinge upon stadium views...

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
If you guys are serious about wanting to close Portland, I would recommend going straight to the source and emailing Jacob Frey, Betsy Hodges, Peter McLaughlin, and/or Marion Greene to get some political will behind the effort.
It might be too late at this point, but I emailed Frey this morning asking to push public works at the city & county to consider closing Portland. The more voices they hear, the more likely something could get done.
