I think one article stated that they had signed a letter of intent to buy property on Royalston. It's only a few blocks long so that gives youa pretty good idea where it might go.So where exactly would a stadium near the farmers market go? The Sporting KC stadium footprint is about 500 x 500 ft. So even if they used the entire farmers market site some of the industrial uses would need to go to. Furthermore, would the farmers market be moved somewhere else? One of the many downtown parking lots?
I would also assume that those attending games would be encouraged to park in the Target Field superstructure. If that's the case west of Royalston/N. 12th would need some pedestrian improvements.

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis
Anyone want to be optimistic and say along with our MLS expansion announcement Wednesday, will also come renderings and confirmed private funding for the new stadium? Because this is the only question regarding the new team, you would think there is something McGuire and Garber know regarding the site and the funding. If it was still a serious question and up in the air, I don't think Garber would have rushed here as quick as he has planned. I could be compeltely missing a point, but I think it's worth being optimistic about!

Some talk about MN United keeping name and logo, other interesting info (stadium related, etc.) on that twitter feed...

An article from Reusse that doesn't completely ridicule the game of soccer, now that's news. Are the end times near?
Also, I think everyone already knows who pulls Bakk's strings.

Reusse is a fraud. He's written columns ripping the Vikings stadium political process and even bestowed Turkey of the Year on Zygi a couple thanksgivings back. While the whole thing was playing out he was either silent or, in the case of former cm Colvin Roy, openly mocking people who dare question sports stadiums.

Reusse works for one the potential owners of an MLS franchise (Glen Taylor). Everyone knows who pulls Reusse's strings.

Apparently you haven't read any of the paper's other coverage of this story.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis
The Twitter feed for @callaghanpeter seems to have some info about the stadium plan. I'm on my phone and not seeing how to link.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis
Thanks for the heads up, he does have a lot of good stuff on his feed right now.

Yep, there going to ask for public money to develop the area. 30% apparently, and we're expected to be sold on the fact that 70% is a higher % of private dollars than any other stadium project in the Twin Cities. But hey, the city has been clamoring to re-develop the farmers market right? So obviously that means we need to pitch in public money for a soccer stadium.

200 acres. That's basically all of that part of the city. They have to be proposing some crazy thing. Not that I'd be upset, but that's a lot of area.

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis
200 acres isn't even possible. Using the Hennepin Co GIS, the area bounded by Olson, 7th, RR tracks, and 94 is under 70 acres. There has to be an extra 0 on there. 20 acres sounds about right.
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.
Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis
The entire area within 394/94/viaducts seems to be about 200 acres. This is also the area which the "2020 partners" (still unsure what this group/thing is) highlights as their region/area/whatever.

Maybe this is what they're going for?

A mega food hub would be quite apt considering Minneapolis' history of food processing and the fact that the largest food companies in the world are headquartered here.

Not much new in this article either, but the stadium is designed by Populos.

Looking on their website, good firm. Nothing 100% generic, but I guess it depends on how much the org. is willing to pay. I'm sure you all know them from designing Target Field. I'm just finding this out
