Seven Points Uptown (Calhoun Square)
Re: Calhoun Square
So where would the entrance be? I looks like the front retail will close off the main entrance to to Calhoun Square.

Re: Calhoun Square
Oh, thanks. Didn't see it, could be a problem for foot traffic if I'm not the only one that missed it.
Re: Calhoun Square
I agree. It's appears a bit small and too understated to clearly mark itself as the main entrance to the mall. Somehow it should have more visibility.Oh, thanks. Didn't see it, could be a problem for foot traffic if I'm not the only one that missed it.

Re: Calhoun Square
Part of the point of doing this is that this really won't be an enclosed mall anymore. Almost every first-level retail space has a street entrance now. Second level areas are places you generally plan to go to so they don't need to grab the casual passers-by. An understated entrance is just what this place needs.
Re: Calhoun Square
I'd say that the Hennepin Ave entrance next to Kitchen Window will become the mall's new main entrance. I think they will need to rethink the Lake street entrance to give it a more visible entrance, but they don't need a huge entrance like they have now. There is a lot of wasted space in it current configuration on the first floor.
Re: Calhoun Square
The new entrance location should better align with the volume of the atrium, so one should be able to look deeper into the space than you can currently. The entrance may not be as prominent from the street, but it should be more inviting once you find it.
Re: Calhoun Square
Yes, that will be the new de facto main entrance. I don't' know, but it feels odd and slightly illogical to have the main entrance sort of tucked away from the Hennepin/Lake intersection. That has always been the soul and epicenter of the neighborhood with the most dense pedestrian traffic.I'd say that the Hennepin Ave entrance next to Kitchen Window will become the mall's new main entrance.
Re: Calhoun Square
I guess I just feel like, with most (if not all) of the stores on Hennepin and Lake both having interior and exterior entrances, more people are going to enter through one of those stores and find themselves drawn into the mall through the other entrance. I like the position of the new door and LOVE that there will be corner retail. With the exception of Vickie's this puts a door into retail on each corner.

Re: Calhoun Square
Look at every other building in the area. None of them have corner entrances. All of them have small entrances (usually to upper floor apartments) tucked on the side somewhere. CS will actually fit better into the neighborhood aesthetic with this plan. I like it!Yes, that will be the new de facto main entrance. Re: Calhoun Square
Mathematically speaking, I'd guess most visitors will still enter via the parking ramp side, but believe whatever you want I guess.
The bike parking is on Girard too.
While it would tickle our urban fancies if most Calhoun Square guests arrived on foot (incl. bus trips), it probably isn't true.

Re: Calhoun Square
Add in the number of people coming from CARAG (1/4 of the walkshed population) who enter in the Girard door as well.
Re: Calhoun Square
Not too mention that you can "enter" through any ground level retail that you prefer and there's still a huge entrance on hen.

Re: Calhoun Square
Seems like work has already started on this. Or at least they have plywood up where the new space will be.

Re: Calhoun Square
Ah, sorry, my bad.Locked. GO figure :-/.
The synopsis:
What’s next for Calhoun Square?
We’re changing the entrances, we signed a few more leases and we’re adding some more art. We’re close to 90 percent full. We’re also still working through the redevelopment of the lot next door.
Code42 Software had planned to lease all of MoZaic East, but your deal with them fell apart in December.
What’s the status of the office building now?
Our intention is still to move forward on breaking ground this year. We just brought on CBRE Group Inc. to do the leasing, Mark McCary, Larissa Champeau and Brent Karkula. We are really excited. We’ve been tweaking the plans a little bit to make it more geared to multiple tenants.
Do you expect you’ll have to go through any more municipal approvals?
My expectation is to not.

Re: Calhoun Square
The Uptown Neighborhood News has a feature on it too. There is a new art piece hanging above the Coffee shop called 'Uptown Borealis', Parella opening, & wrestling on the open lot this summer .
