Rage and mob justice are what happen when the police and system in place to prevent this sort of thing continually fail everyone. I'd much prefer a more civilized response but unsafe drivers are a life or death situation for a lot of people and having no one looking out for your safety gets old really fast.

He stopped and got out though. Hitting a child isn't ok, but he wasn't trying to flee the scene (which is why they were able to beat him). This is bad all around.

Mods, shut this down right now.

I'm sick of this excuse. If someone can get in front of your car faster than you can stop you're going too fast and not paying enough attention. The victim blaming for the ongoing pedestrian massacre needs to end.

On second thought, Mods, leave this up so everybody can see the absurd vigilante garbage he's spouting.

Does that mean that I can expect a brutal mob beating to be administered by you?

Just because you're a member of a supposedly disadvantaged group doesn't put you above the law.

No but driving a car allows you to murder people as long as you're not drunk.

As "murder" generally requires the specific intent to kill, no, but we do seem to have an strangely lax sense of due care required to operate a motor vehicle in a way that is not negligent (or otherwise culpable).

Regardless, a mob beating is not a step in the right direction.

I had a debate with someone a while back about why we treat negligence as a more acceptable reason to kill a human being. I understand it's codified in law but it seems really messed up to say it's more OK to kill someone because you suck at driving. And yes I'm a little on the hyperbole side of things right now but I have a serious problem with our social values when it comes to human life.

And no I'm not going to join in any mob justice because I'm not a violent person.

There is a whole lot more about this "mob beating".

The driver seems to have generally done a whole lot to turn the neighborhood against him before this even happened. Regularly speeding out on the neighborhood streets where kids play and neighbors have been screaming at him to stop, flying the confederate battle flag off his truck and neighborhood kids took liberties to torch it one day.

Then the proud redneck* flies down the street and plows into a child. They had enough of his recklessness and antics.

"To us that's just a battle flag, it has nothing to do with racism," says Brook.
Yeah! Great to see them celebrating Minnesota's vibrant history as a confederate state! /s

Our actual history, of course, doesn't justify deliberately speeding through neighborhoods and revving the engine of your traitor-flag adorned symbol of insecurity. #JustExurbanThings #JustRuralThings

18 year old driver also has a 13 year old "girlfriend"

So he's also probably a rapist, at the very least a child molester. No sympathy.

The oddity is the "girlfriend" changed her Facebook name to have his last name. She's also a fan of southern "culture". He's a really positive influence on this minor. :/
