Interesting, because they've done some actually really cool work...
I want to see more detailed renderings as they become available. Maybe it's not a totally lost cause after all ?? I do find it hard to believe the city would not want something architecturally significant here, considering the 80 million dollar taxpayer investment in the Interchange the project faces. And this was supposed to be the new great focal point of the North Loop? :?

Yep, and a nice glass building makes a better gateway than a stinky one story industrial printing building. What's an example of a building you were hoping for? The walker? Oh wait, probably everyone is disappointed because they thought this was going to be the new 100 story skyscraper. Be The Match is a nonprofit, just sayin'- my whole point is that this development will help bring in the gateway projects. Patience young Jedi.
Ah yes, the typical it's better than nothing or what's currently there response. I never stated it had to be on the level of the Walker or a 100 story skyscraper, but it should be better than a suburban-looking building. I'm starting to think that all the creative types have left Minneapolis.

And those that understand economics, too.

The Walker is that thing that looks like a Space Ship along Lyndale/Hennipen [sic], right?

Wait...

...so what's being proposed here? the suburban glass and steel? or the urban brick with the cutouts...?

Not sure I'd call it a space ship. But it is covered in wired mesh screening with a section fronting Hennepin cantilevering over a plaza. Very angular but far from a square as some of the angles and walls are skewed.

This actually looks quite a bit better than those initial rendering suggested:

(Also this is set to be fully approved by the Planning Commission on the 2nd)

Agreed, they added just enough detail to make it not just a box i suppose. should help make the area feel more dense and canyon-like in the least.

Thanks Lordmoke for the update. Does look better, but still feels a bit suburban, cold, and mismatched for such a great urban site. I'm sure it's budget concerns that are influencing this design. If we are lucky, The Planning Commission may recommend a few revisions to refine it ( i.e downplay the boxiness even more, add some character to the facade).

The boxiness is actually a good for this particular neighborhood. What's bad is the 1987 window fenestration. Upgrade please.

Yes, a more contemporary look with variation.

I do like this version better than the last but in this neighborhood, I think it should look more...warehouse-like. More bricks is what I'm saying, I guess.

Slide 15 seems to show a small sign on the left side of the building that says "CAFE". I thought it was mentioned that there would be no retail?
