Shucks, we use that skyway to walk back to our parking ramp after Wolves games.
I think you are thinking a different skyway. This one doesn't really go to any parking ramps, unless they are in the core.

That skyway that will be taken down does go to the A ramp, (Hawthorn), as I've used it to get back to Hennepin after baseball games to avoid the crowds on the street after the games. Not sure how it benefits Target Center getting back to a parking ramp, But that skyway does connect with the A Ramp going towards Hennepin.

My bad. You will have to take a detour.

Yep, noticed that as well. Wonder when they're finally going to start the skyway removal. The notices still say early january if my memory serves me correct.

There is a new notice in the skyway, it's now slated to come down Feb. 17th.

Some temporary offices are being built for the hotel construction management in the empty half of the floor I work on, so that's neat!

It'll be nice to see this hotel go up. Hopefully some of the other smaller surface lots in the area will see development in the coming years. This part of town is a dead zone when there's nothing happening at the target center. At least with this hotel we will have people in the area, but Id imagine most of them won't really be wandering the streets much since it is skyway connected.

Wish we could develop the bottom level of the A ramp, and the lower part of that district heating facility on the other side of 1st. Indeed, this has been a dead zone for far too long.

There are already City of Minneapolis offices along Hawthorne in the first floor of the ramp (this is actually part of the Greyhound station ramp). Maybe this hotel will be a draw for some small retailers but I'd say boosters should focus on filling storefronts on Hennepin first.

But I agree about the A Ramp - I've always wanted to see them replace the first floor of parking facing Target Field with a restaurant. They'd need to get the FHWA involved though, and probably deck over the small exposed area of 394.

Until you get the 2 huge blocks of open space south of the Orpheum built up with office or residential, you will have problems getting people to walk down that direction as there is nothing for them down there. I hope that the hotel will be a catalyst to getting housing to the south end of 1st Ave.

I did. I saw a chain link fence surrounding the parcel and construction equipment on site.

How much are the spending to build this property? Interesting to see their profit.

looks like they are probably leaving the existing section of skyway over 1st. (I didn't know if they were rebuilding the whole thing or not). going to town on the part over the lot.
