There's a meeting tonight that might be of interest to UrbanMSP'ers.

2020 Partners is giving a presentation at HGA's offices in the Ford Center, with updates on many current and future projects.

The agenda is posted here: http://the2020partners.com/2013/11/18/a ... r-19-2013/

There's some work going on at the Jackson Building at 3rd Ave. N. and Washington.

There's a chance that this is preliminary work on a new outpost of the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee. Looking at the lovely existing hotel there, you could see how this would be a great fit for the Jackson Building. Here's hoping!

There already is a proposal for a boutique hotel on first ave and 3rd, in the old Nate's Clothing building. Others from here have recently said that they have seen working going on in the building. So it sounds like that project is still a go. Will need to take a look the next time I'm downtown.

I saw a public notice on the building just west of JD Hoyt's for possibly putting on the historic registry.

Just west of JD Hoyt's.... Would that be the giant pink one on Washington or the one with the wine bar on 3rd?

I was wondering the same, since when I first heard that, I was confused why a strip club was being discussed for historic designation.

On 3rd fronting the freeway ramp not the strip club to the north of JDs.

To be fair the roads are all on the 45... So it can be confusing. That is why I asked. I have lots of friends that think of Washington as east-west.

It is the taller section of building that is painted partially pink and part of De Vue on the odd side of the 300 block of Washington. It is across from the IPR building.

Wait which is it? alleycat says on 3rd and Wedgeguy says on Washington.

Go with the guy who brought it to your attention. Address is 307 N Washington, In between JD Hoyts and the entrance to Deja Vu. Parts of it are painted pink like the strip club. To me Washington runs more east/west than north/south in that section of the warehouse district. After 10th, Washington makes a curve to truly run north/south. Sorry for the confusion, It was late the night I posted and was too tired to try and find the address of the building. I thought my directions would be easy to understand, but I forgot that that is part of down that tends to run at an angle and I see where others got confused. Will try and post addresses in the future if I'm able to find them.

Sorry for the confusion. My guess was based on Wedgeguy's west statement. I guess we're talking about Deja Vu, which is to the north (west) of JD Hoyt's.

Happy New Years all, and to a healthy and prosperous 2014 to each one us personally and to the Twin Cities as well.

I don't know if anyone else finds this interesting, but of the proposed/approved/under construction/completed projects in the Minneapolis-only pipeline currently -- making up 12,000+ units of housing and 2M+ SF of office -- there are 105 NEW structures being created that are 4 floors or greater (the starting point for most sites defined as "low-rises" in Emporis). Only 20 of those will be 10 floors or greater (generally considered "high-rise" status in Emporis, but must be >113 feet), and a whopping 50 or more are 6-7 floors (holy sticks Batman)!

None of this includes any "pie-in-the-sky" projects like the Convention hotel, renovations (because they aren't new structures) or any future low-chance projects like the notion of several future super-tall projects floating around the forum. Also, this is based on the data that I maintain rather loosely on my own. I know I am missing some projects!

So is 2014 going to be the year where just one of the projects we all have been told to be patient for will come to fruition?

I can see at least one or two high profile projects being announced in 2014 actually. 2013 had the Vikings Stadium, Star Tribune redevelopment, and at least one of the high-rises going up in downtown. I can see 2014 following through with one or several of the following types of large-scale projects:

-a large mixed-use development (residential and hotel most likely according to some)
-a large office spec development
-a large convention hotel development
-one or several residential high-rise developments >= 25 floors

If current market trends continue any or all of these things are certainly plausible. Then again, I don't want to hold my breath. Perhaps a reach-out to RetiredBanker is in order....
