I highly doubt the cub block would get much taller than 6-8 stories with the greenway north of it. I'd say calhoun square then Arbys or cheapo or mc Donalds... could go taller, who knows!
Duh. I always seem to forget that the Cub fronts (backs?) the Greenway. Probably because it is such a forgettable store. Except for the smell behind it. :o

What about something taller on the parking lot and some sort of green space? Greenway fronting patio (a la Bar Louie) or something behind it? Would that work since it would be pushed back farther form the Greenway? I'd love to see the remaining parcels be developed with a little bit of height, ranging from maybe 8-15 stories, especially Arby's and the McDonald's sites. I love being in some of the neighborhoods in Chicago that have a good range of building heights, makes it feel more like a city and less like a bunch of the same squished together.

Am I going crazy or did they add a new artsy facade to 1300 lagoon next to hammer and sickle

I'm thinking they're using it to try and attract new office tenants. I really wish they would do something to the top of that building, It looks incomplete to me.

I'm sure they'll tear that metal down in 20 some years and then artfully restore it 50 years from now ;)

Uptown Development Map and General Discussion

The StarTribune covers the demographic change in Uptown.

http://www.startribune.com/local/minnea ... 38391.html

"“It’s just not us,” Matt Barthelemy, who works at Common Roots on 26th and Lyndale. He appreciates the new money flowing into Uptown but worries that the neighborhood is losing its soul. “The more and more luxury apartments we see go up, the more corporations and chain stores we see go up, the more homogenized it is,” he said."

And...

"“We came here and I was like, ‘Oh my God, all the pretty young people live here!’ ” Crump said of her apartment building."

And...

"“You’ve got all these wonderful projects, and all these people that live here, and now they’re trying to get to Lake Street to go shopping, go to Cub, all the great new restaurants and everything at Lynn-Lake … and they have to cross over this really ugly street called 29th,” said Jensen, with the Midtown Greenway Coalition."

Just cuz... I thought I'd point out that the balcony with the flower boxes and hanging baskets in the picture of Lime's hot tub is mine :-). They should have a best balcony award, totally would have won!

Okay so this is kind of big news. They took down the fence covers around the vacant lot next to Calhoun square. And are going to maybe start doing some clean up. There are signs for a jazz fest going on with food trucks. I already see some planters going in

On the note of Calhoun Sqaure the shoe store with the overpriced shoes is going out of business.

They are one of the original tenants I believe! Been a mainstay in the neighborhood for ages... Sad to see them go.

That's really too bad, they had some great deals in their back room. Never bought anything full price but always found the pretentious old women who worked there to be entertaining.

Maybe pretentious old lady shoes are not selling like they once were in the hood. Looks like they may not have changed styles with the changing demographics. Sometimes you have to update your mission statement or die.
