Are the votes out there to save the bus lanes?

Public Works Committee passed Chughtai's Staff Direction for 24/7 lanes 3-2, Robin, Aisha, and Elliot voted yes, Emily and Latrisha voted no. Goes to the City Council next Thursday. 7 votes are needed to pass, and be signed by Mayor Frey. 9 votes required for a veto proof majority.

For sure Yes:
Robin Wonsley
Aisha Chughtai
Elliot Payne
Andrew Johnson
Jeremiah Ellison
Jason Chavez

Can be swayed to Yes:
Andrea Jenkins
Jamal Osman

Probably No:
Emily Koski
Micheal Rainville
Linnea Palmasino
Latrisha Vetaw

For Sure No:
Lisa Goodman

Email your council members if they are on the fence!!! Especially Andrea Jenkins and Jamal Osman. If Frey vetos, I think things look pretty grim for supporters of 24/7 bus lanes

I emailed Jenkins about it yesterday and got the most non-committal answer, essentially, "Thanks for your input, I will ensure it is included in the public record."

Looks like Jenkins is a "no", she is so out of touch with her actual constituents...

She won with 86% of the vote last year. It is more likely that you don't want to simply disagree with her and respect your difference of opinion with her then that she is out of touch. You can say you disagree without slinging mud.

Lol, she ran basically unopposed. The person running against her wasn’t a serious candidate… either way I do disagree with her not voting in favor of transit when her ward has a lot of transit users.

As a longtime constituent, it's fairly common knowledge among her constituents that she's out of touch with her constituents. She knows it too.

She may be out of touch with the constituents that you're friends with and talk with, but that's a self-selecting group. There's literally no good polling to prove or disprove your claim here.

My day job is politics, I work and talk with people of all stripes. She represents the historic Black southside and lots of folks in those neighborhoods are constantly battling her for not listening to them. Even people in Kingfield see this. It's common knowledge.

There's no polling but ward 8 is one of the most liberal wards in the city and has been for years. For instance, the ward supported the police referendum, even though Jenkins opposed it. The ward also didn't want Frey as mayor. I don't think it's a stretch to say she's often out of touch with the majority of her constituents.

Vote on this has been postponed until 6/9 and 6/15 so supporters on the council can clarify points raised in the committee meeting last week and lessen the chance of a mayoral veto.

Clarification question: where does Mayor Frey stand on 24 seven bus lanes along Hennepin?

He appointed Margaret Anderson Kelliher in the first place, and I don't think anyone would mistake him for someone in touch with what voters outside of the 7th and 13th want.

Its probably a bad idea to have two rural people in charge of the transportation policy implementation for the only decently sized urban area in a 500 mile radius.

Who do you mean by rural people? I'm assuming Public Works Director Kelliher and someone else?

MAK has lived in Minneapolis, including a stint representing the City in the MN Legislature, for decades. I grew up in a tiny town in SW MN, but have lived in the City for 30 years and hope to be considered an urbanite after all that time. :)

Jacob Frey is an exurbanite from the old confederacy. That fact manifests in many ways in the course of his governing of Minneapolis.

Okay now that feels like a stretch.
