What exactly has the board said about it? They certainly haven't opposed it.

Re: Superior Plating site
Sorry. Semantic issue at work. I said, "neighborhood groups" above not "neighborhood boards" or "subcommittees."What exactly has the board said about it? They certainly haven't opposed it.
I've presented in front of the LHENA board. I said "groups" in the generic sense meaning anyone (formal or informal) who organizes for or against projects. Volume can't be underestimated at a meeting and the loudest people (who may or may not be a minority) tend to get a lot of attention.

Re: Opposition to new Development
Yeah I was basically trying to get at that in the Nye's thread. Most local opposition currently is pretty terrible.

So organize support. If the opposition is really that terrible it should crumble in the face of organized support.Yeah I was basically trying to get at that in the Nye's thread. Most local opposition currently is pretty terrible.
Re: Opposition to new Development
Would kind of agree with David here--I mean, yes, a lot of local opposition is terrible, but moving the needle requires so little. Silophant and I were just at the Loring Park neighborhood group annual meeting, and I mean...pretty sure if either (or both) of us had raised our hands when they were asking for nominations, we'd have ended up on the board.
There are very legitimate concerns with and arguments against the composition of a lot of neighborhood groups but on the other hand, if you got a handful of people with a handful of annual hours together, you could basically takeover most of our neighborhood groups.

It's really true. Just ask Basim Sabri -- he's probably got a crib sheet to help you do it.There are very legitimate concerns with and arguments against the composition of a lot of neighborhood groups but on the other hand, if you got a handful of people with a handful of annual hours together, you could basically takeover most of our neighborhood groups.

Re: Opposition to new Development
I'm pretty sure if you have a pulse and you show up, you can be on a neighborhood board.
Re: Opposition to new Development
Speaking of. If you live in the wedge and have a pulse... I'm running for our neighborhood board and you need to be there at 8 on April 15. I think it might get dicey actually. K thanks, carry on.

Re: Opposition to new Development
Was there another thread where we were talking about neighborhood organizations, etc. this time last year?
Whittier's election is tonight. Having moved out of the hood two months ago, I'm sort of relieved to not have to attend. CARAG is so much more welcoming and approachable.
Nathan - That is awesome! Good luck!

Ooops. Should have posted that here, perhaps.
But yeah. The comment section made me way more sad that reading the Strib comments. And that's saying something.

Re: Opposition to new Development
Is there anywhere in the country that's actually happy with the development going on? Everybody in every "peer" city thinks their development is bad, and I've specifically seen articles from local journalists (look to be City Pages type deals rather than Star Tribunes) about how all the new buildings are crap. And our media does that here, and everybody seems to think it's some problem local to their particular city...
And man I just don't know. I mean, these are real feelings that real people are having so that's not to be discredited, but seriously what's going on here?

Re: Opposition to new Development
Grass is greener etc. Everyone everywhere says "look at how great the developments in [insert peer city] are!" because they're evaluating every new development in their city in comparison to the very, very best developments in every other.
