That's great about Nighthawk's and all, but I'd like to hear more about Kingfield Softball.

Went for a snack/late lunch Saturday. First impression pretty positive. The Shorty & Wags Tribute fried chicken was quite good. The $10 dogs just might be worth it from the looks of them. Huge and loaded. The place was just starting to fill up when I took off at about 4:00 PM. Definitely want to try a couple more things. Not much for the vegetarian girlfriend, though. Serves her right.

So is this about as generic of a 38th/Nicollet thread as we have?

Yup. We already have a 38th St thread. It'd be nice if this thread morphed into a Nicollet south of Lake St thread. The Eat Street thread is pretty much Nicollet north of K-Mart.
That's horrible. I remember hearing all the sirens around that time but didn't think too much about it. That's the first homicide in the immediate area since early last year.

...and another killing at Pleasant and Lake this afternoon. Is there any scuttlebutt as to something going on? Before the last week or so I wrote off the murder spike to random blip, but this is coming pretty fast all of a sudden.

In lighter news, Ramen Kazama at 34th & Nicollet appears to be nearly ready to open. "Novemberish" is the new timeline. http://www.citypages.com/restaurants/ra ... ek-7764869

Tower Games relocating from 48th & Nicollet to 39th & Nicollet:

It's great to see more diverse business coming to the general 38th & Nicollet area!

Slight bummer in that lots of kids from Washburn/Ramsey would walk over there, but overall good news that they are expanding.

Noted increase in rush hour congestion at Nicollet & 38th. Nothing for the city to worry about or respond with changes or anything (save for perhaps adding a left turn lane on westbound 38th...but that could be done on east-west streets in a lot of places - 36th & Lyndale, 46th & Lyndale).

Anyone else notice the empty stores recently? Fun Sisters closed after Christmas and the 44th St Nursery closed last spring (to my utter dismay!). There are Landscape Love trucks parked there, but the For Sale sign is still up.

There has been For Lease sign in the Frame Ups shop for a long time now, although their sign says they are still framing. I'm not sure what has gone into the old Style shop on 45th and Nicollet either.

Despite the new Corner Table location and Revival, it's starting to feel a little dead between 42nd and 46th.

That new Locus Architecture building looks nice. But I agree. Also the Nicollet bookstore closing just means another blocked door. I was hoping something new would go in there instead of just the antique shop taking over.

I'm guessing that at this point streetcar is probably a lost cause on Nicollet (south of Lake) but its fun to think about the possible economic impacts it could have had all the way down to 46th St.

That is a good question... is the streetcar dead? If it is only the City of Minneapolis it would be much easier to develop/approve. I think it is estimated at $200 M... and a chunk of that is from the state. Maybe the state is currently the barrier .... but did the city drop this from it's priorities?

If it happens at all, I think it's fairly safe to say that any extension south of Lake is far, far in the future, like 2040 at least
