LOL @ grainy black & white images from a user with one post. Development porn indeed.
So it's either an epic hoax or someone who created the account to discretely post the images. Either way it creates an interesting conversation on what kind of buildings Minneapolis could handle or would like to see built.

I'm not starting this credibility bullshit again. She's the one who told us about Retiredbankers health, she works in the industry close to RB, her name is june and she's a retired commercial real estate agent from Dallas

While that's all probably true, you do realize that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are, right?

Simmer down guy, just asking the question. Didn't know it was already addressed. You post a long blurb of claims like that you'll get people wondering where it came from.

I think it's really easy to judge this building in a negative way based on two crappy renderings that looked liked they were clipped from the newspaper 25 years ago.

It's a crazy idea, I'm sure it's not as big and gaudy as it looks, and the spire looks like the halo energy sword. I think part of the reason it looks stupid is that it appears to stick out like a sore thumb. The perspective is out of proportion, and the rest of the skyline looks dwarfed. I bet if we saw a detailed render (even if this is all a joke), it'd still look better than what shows in those two bad pictures.

Someone once-upon-a-time posted a quick and dirty mockup of a 1000' tower on the block targeted for a convention center hotel as viewed from the south coming up 35W. Due to the perspective, it looked absolutely monstrous and easily twice as tall as the "big 3" in the core.

Bad rendering or not, this...thing...would dominate the skyline to such an extent when viewed from anywhere south of downtown that I shudder at the possibility.

Yes, the IDS tower dominated the entire city when it went up by itself so long ago, but at least it was in the core of DT so anything that sprouted up after it would create a forest effect. I highly suspect that nothing else [super-]tall will get built in the near future in this area on the fringe of DT, so whatever goes up for a CC hotel will need to be unquestionably gorgeous. "Love it or hate it" isn't going to work here, IMO.

That grainy rendering is authentic as far as I know. I saw the same one earlier this year from a reliable source. I have strong doubts that it will be the design that is ultimately selected though.

Wouldn't that be an incredibly inefficient design for a hotel?

What makes you say that?

Did you see it? Doesn't Hennepin Cty have the end say in who is selected? Do you really think those down home Minnesotans are going to choose that?

I can easily accept that this would be the choice by Hennepin County. It's certainly "interesting.' Maybe you and I have differing perceptions about their taste levels. Hennepin is a county that prides itself on being cutting edge. Within reason, of course. But granting an international developer the rights to a prime piece of real estate to develop an iconic building.... well.. I can just see the architectural orgasms.

Forget the view from 35; this would absolutely loom over north Whittier and Stevens Square. I doubt there are many places in those neighborhoods that you couldn't see it from.

now that rendering has been removed from ssc forum. it reminded me of the "big A" standing over the outfield fence at anaheim stadium.

Cutting edge because they've built a few cute libraries? What has Hennepin county done that is cutting edge? I really hope you're not vying for this structure, it's iconic only because it's tacky and I don't think Minneapolis or Hennepin county wants to be the laughing stock of the architectural community. I said earlier with some simple adjustments it could be a beautiful skyscraper, but that just has cheese written all over it.

There is a way to be edgy and modern and creative and unique without being tacky and out of place.
